According to me The thing that keeps connected you to provider is Service quality and the Support , not the price. What if you get hosting in $1 but found your site down half of the month.. would you continue with the provider.

try to get the quality not the price.

Price can be a priority when you first start but then you will realize that other qualities such as tech support and server uptime also matter for your site.

The pricing is variant base on hosting features and it could not be fixed, I would pick a shared hosting plan at least from $5 /mo. After all, the final factor to decide to go with a web hosting provider is their support, it is good or not then you need to check it.

If you notice all the big hosting companies have switched to yearly plans with big discounts to lock on the online clientele and give an incentive for people to stay with them for a long time therefore selling more services/add-ons. If you pay attention to it, you will notice most of these companies regular monthly price is actually way over $8 - $10 a month for their smallest plan and the whatever $3.xx price you see is if you go for 2/3 years or so.

It's not a bad deal, but you have to make sure that host is the right one for you.

Shared hosting plan pricing is very competitive these days as more and more people just jump into hosting business due to the ease of becoming re seller host. This has led to throat cutting prices and low quality. Even if you offer hi quality support and good uptime it is very difficult to tap the client as they will always fall to the pricing gimmick. As far as the question is confirmed the reasonable price for a shared hosting with good features should be around 3 to 4 dollars per month.

The price depends on the quality of service. Pay $1, and support, uptime, performance, etc will be poor. Pay around $5/month and then support, uptime and performance should be better. You may need to pay more than $5/month when more diskspace is needed.

Around $3 for one website, $5+ multiple websites with/without domain name.
There are lot unlimited hosting with domain from $3/mo, some of them offers Varnish, Memcached and Node.js for $10+/mo.

I think that is $5+/mo is best option.

I think if you are a provider who is just beginning to start out, offering plans possibly around $4+ would be a good start BUT you have to offer something that other providers don't. The key is to stay competitive. At the end of the day, why should a customer choose you over another provider? If you offer the same thing but provider 1 is offering the same plan for less who do you think the consumers are going to pick? You or the other provider? Probably the other provider.

Just because a provider offers plans at $1 doesn't mean you are going to get crappy service.
