You can learn in both of them. So its in you of which you prefer books are specific and knowledgeable you can learn more from reading it while tutorial is a one by one process it made you do things step by step.

I suggest that you try using the Youtube .There are tutorials on how to manage a dedicated server. For me, it is better than the book because in youtube tutorials, it is detailed. In case you are not contended with the video, you can choose another one. Somehow, it is advantageous to use tutorial in youtube because in just one click, you can learn for free. Books will let you spare a certain amount in order to have it. Good for you if you can only borrow it but the chance is quite slim.

you must read books for preference and step by step procedures it is important to read first the advantage and disadvantage or pros and cons, then the safety precautions to start what you want to do then its easy to use the tutorials in the youtube for better understanding

Personally, I agree with you @24x7CSM that it can be both. Why? Simple because we as a human is not a robot to begin with. Sometimes, we can't extract or internalize all the contents, data and information all at once and I believe some are not reliable. So, we really need to understand first and comprehend well especially those difficult statements that we couldn't understand.

Choose Tutorial for Several Reasons!

1. Update with the latest techniques and strategies which the book cannot give.
2. Better comprehension once the topic progress.
3. Straight to the point/ Heart of the topic.
4. Simple explanation yet meaty meaning.

You may watch tutorials from internet and then you may try it also. You can also read books and differents forums about certain topic that you want to learn. Nowadays, a lot of people is defending on Do-it-yourself projects by just learning it on the internet. No wonder about it, because some of the experts on different fields is now sharing and posting their skills or proper process and procedure of their task/work. Exploit the opportunity to learn for free.

I would personally recommend getting on youtube and searching individual subjects, I find videos are much better than books and written guides!

Hi!

You might as well consider both, learning from books and tutorials. There are lots of online tutorials nowadays that you might want to check out. And just in case, that you know someone personally who does web hosting, you might want to ask them for help. As for me, it would still be best if there is someone to guide you on the process of learning the basics for web hosting if you have a mentor that you can rely on. But if not, try getting e-books or watching online videos. Hope you can get assistance sooner. Good Luck!

I always go for tutorial. I easily get bored when I read and I'm having hard time to find patience to read. Yes, I am a lazy reader.
Well, what I'm trying to say is, in most of the tutorials, you're not just viewing some sort of non-sense videos. These are videos that most of the uploader have already experienced in the past. These are more like sharing and they have already gained their knowledge from that experience. That is something that I think everyone should take advantage of. Learning from others experience.

Tutorials are better. Not only are they appealing, they also lead you into walkthroughs that would make it easy to understand. But there's a wide range of tutorials available out there so you just have to be vigilant in choosing the right site. Some are just fraud and they're in it for traffic and eventually, money.

It is much better if you would use them both, reading in the book can give you additional knowledge most especially in the theory aspect. You can also get some tips and techniques while reading in the book. Whereas the tutorial can give you the best hands on training technique and update you to the latest trends in the market. Tutorial can also help you understand well step by step the entire process.

I think I would choose the tutorial type since it s now the most commonly used by most people since we are now at the modern age of technology. Although they may have still some people who uses book for some reasons. But for me, tutorial method is the more convenient to use because it is simple and easy to understand. It is very catchy and direct to the point explanation and discussion. It only takes a few minutes than in the book that is very long procedure to follow.

I will choose both. Even though both of this are helpful but some of books are out dated. You cannot always check every book. Compare to tutorial, there's a lot of website that offer tutorials. Also, youtube is always up for useful tips and tutorials.

You can do both. Read books while taking some tutorials. If you are a visual person, take tutorials. But if you are a fast learner just by reading then take books. Why not take both? There's no harm in trying. You can still gain knowledge by both of them so there's nothing to lose. Whatever you choose it's still on you on how you will dedicate yourself by studying your subjects. Hope you learn everything from books or tutorials. Enjoy learning.

You should do both for a good outcome. But if i am going to choose i will prefer the tutorial. It gives better comprehension of the things you want to learn. For example in youtube, lots of tutorial are available in certain topic that give step by step process to attain the outcome. Books are sometimes complex to understand. Tutorials are simplified form that convenient in my point of view. In the end it still depends on you, how much time and patience you will give to learn and succeed.

Self study is the best study if and when possible as that knowledge will stay with you with your lifetime

So even if you hire a admin, if possible try to study things and make sure you can handle basic things by yourself. This will be very handy in the business and handling customers via phone/skype/livechat.

In the initial days of my career I was not having basic linux knowledge at all like what is linux and from there I learned Linux administration using googling ( My senior always had one answer on my every question "Google" ) and I have not yet taken any certification nor have done any course. But I have more than 9 years experience now in the industry.

So you can also build your knowledge and you can ask any level of questions in such forums and sharing knowledge helps us to grow. So buckle up , order a small vps initially say 512 MB vps, then google or check youtube for online tutorials, study more on the words which you hear in that video and make sure you understand them properly.

I wish you all the best in your studies and future career building in Linux and Hosting.
