Hi, when I searched for a new hosting company, I have come across this term and I would like to talk about "visitors per month", what exactly is this and how do I check how many visitors can I get on my hosting? Is it in Google Analytics or AWstats? with AWstats, do I need to install it on my hosting to analysis my website statistic?

Hi Little Alien,

Visitors per month is the amount of vistors or whats defined as a unqiue session from traffic to your site.
AWStats is a traffic statistics program supplied on most control panels. Google Analytics provides much of the same data but does include additional information and real time monitoring.

I recommend you use both.

Hi Little Alien,
you can also look at a self-hosted solution instead of google analytics : https://piwik.org/

I think AWStats is better because they do real time monitoring.

Piwik is a great alternative to Google Analytics but the interface is a little hard to understand despite it´s clear and simple.
I agree and it is not free like Google analytics.

I think AWStats is better because they do real time monitoring.
I have it on my hosting panel but its statistics is always more than Google analytics. I could not understand why.

AWStat is quite decent when it comes to display visitor statistics graphically, plus it comes preinstalled with most shared cPanel hostings.

I've used both piwik and google analytics. They will both give you visitors (per a time frame) Google analytics is more robust and integrates with Adsense etc.

I've always used Google Analytics and AWSTATS, plus others. I don't think you can have too many tools to analyze statistics. You just need to understand what to look for and how to measure what you see on those reports.

AWstats are little over hyped. When you compare with GA, which gives us realistic traffic snapshot, AWstats shows more visitors everytime!

Awstats reads the access log of the website to generate web statistics. Almost all the control panels provide Awstats by default enabled for the websites hosted. Google Analytics require the analytics code to appear on each page. If you have a static website built on html, you have to either add the code in each page or include a js file containing the code in all the pages. In case of a CMS like Wordpress, you get free plugins which integrate the analytics code in each page/post. Google Analytics is a powerful tool and gives more information than Awstats or Webalizer or any other log analyzer software. It is highly recommended for all the websites.

Google Analytics is enabled to and can assist the webmaster to find fake visits. The filtering option helps to get channelized data. But the Google webmaster shows everything including bots, pings, attacks, and other data that can be caused by animated scripts.

I checked piwik, it is also a good tool and alternative to Gogole analytics.

Just to throw another Analytics tool into the mix. Personally I prefer using Get Clicky (which I believe also has a free version).
I never heard of Clicky, I am trying to search about this tool.

Awstats reads the access log of the website to generate web statistics. Almost all the control panels provide Awstats by default enabled for the websites hosted. Google Analytics require the analytics code to appear on each page.
Where did you get this piece of this info? how can you prove that Awstats reads the access log of the website to generate web statistics?
I've never read this before, I want someone to tell me more details about this tool.

Use the both.
For some information analytics is good but for some awstats is. Depends what do you want.

Also you can use statcounter.

Awstats come pre-installed with most of the hosting control panels. Even if they are not installed, one can install it on their server.
Awstats will monitor the web server access logs and generate the output. Their interface is pretty easy to understand for any person who is new to understand online traffic monitoring.

Google analytics on the other hand, need to be coded into the website pages. They then monitor the incoming traffic and display result on their dashboard. As compared to awstats, Google analytics provide in-depth monitoring and analysis, making it difficult to understand for a new person.

Using both simultaneously have no known disadvantages, so both being free can be used and compared.

AWstats is really ugly, but I do trust the data is gives me more than Analytics.
Google Analytics has really in-depth analytics, though. Such an abundance of data to really know your visitors.
