Maybe your web host disabled SSH Root Login in /etc/ssh/sshd_config

PasswordAuthentication no
UsePAM no
You need to contact your web host to open this.

Hope that helps!

If you have a WHM server try this:

(1) GO to WHM

(2) GO to SSH Password Authorization Tweak

(3) Enable the Password Auth

SSH Password Authorization Tweak is disable on WHM by default

Your Welcome, Now you have SSH access authentication via keystroke entry I recommend you enable cpHulk or a use a good firewall such as CSF.
People will be trying to brute force your server as I write this. Make sure your root password is something like hPSAGIWPSn4JXhb5vKEu.
