Both are fully supported so you should see good performance and reliability with each.
If it was my choice I would go with Debian. Debian servers are easy to manage - rarely go wrong, very few updates as a general rule (far more with Ubuntu).
Debian is less bulky than Ubuntu, Ubuntu is less stable.

Ubuntu has newer components which means newer updates for programs such as MySQL, Apache etc. Debian prefers older tried and tested versions of server components.

Think of Debian as that old dinosaur thats been around forever and is rock solid and think of Ubuntu as the new kid on the block more modern yet lacking in certain areas.

Currently Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is supported but there are too much bugs because it's a pre-release.
So I recommend you to choose Debian because it use Mariadb instead of MySQL natively.

I went with Debian when reading this recommendation. I think Debian is better.

I would suggest Debian. Ubuntu is actually based on Debian.

Plesk officially supports both Debian and Ubuntu, and they are maintaining Plesk for both distributions, so it does not really have much difference, just depends on your preference.

From my point of view, CentOS is better.

consider centos but if ubuntu or debian are your options then go for debian. ubuntu is widely accepted but for some reason debian will perform better. u can study the technicalities

Ubuntu is built of Debian so simply Debian is better than Ubuntu as it's the mother of Ubuntu but possibly one day the kid will become better lately there have been little to no updates from Debian
