As I know wordpress started as a blogging platform then evolved into a CMS, after it was developed as CMF (Content Management Framework) but I want to know exactly what it is? In my personal opinion it's just a blogging platform and you can start doing somethings with it like creating posts/pages and managing them on your blog. Other than that, it was developed more to become a CMS. What do you think? WordPress is a CMS, a Blogging platform, a CMF, or something else?

Currently WordPress is a complete CMS with the ability to extend his functionalities with themes and plug-ins.
You can use WordPress without plugins and using it as a static website, as a blog or create your own page template to do what you want with it.
With the basic installation, it's a blog, but there is no limit with extensions.

Nowadays WordPress is becoming more and more like a CMS, it was designed to be a blog platform though.

It has no limit which means you can easily make it a company site, a forum, a shop etc. as long as you have coding skills.

WordPress is still first a foremost a blogging platform which it was designed to be, but it has evolved into a decent CMS.
If I wanted a true CMS I would go for Drupal :D

+1 for CMS

Joomla and Drupal are their main competitors.
Seem Drupal and Joomla were the past, I didn't here more people saying about them or using them for their websites in 2 recent years.
Or I am wrong on this.

I agree that WordPress is a CMS but I'd like to briefly talk about how it is a CMS.

It manages all of your content, which ranges from the content you post, the content you allow to be posted, the CSS and styles as well as the plug-in functionality.

Content is a myriad of "things" nowadays. HTML 5 structures have changed dramatically in the last 10 years, making management of said content much more demanding. One of the problem WordPress solves is incorporating all of those entities in one centralized place, which "disqualifies" it from being merely a blogging platform.

I urge you to check out PHP Fox, a ~$300 CMS. Don't be scared by the price tag of that. Often, with WordPress, the cost of ownership will quickly be more than the cost of acquisition of PHP Fox.

Even thought it originated for blogging purposes mostly, you can definitely say now that WordPress with its extensive plugin selection has become a full fledge CMS. I would agree as some other people that if you are really looking into truly making a complex site, I would like for better solutions such as Drupal. WordPress can get very resource intensive with too many things on it.

I agree with you. It's hard to argue that fact. WordPress CAN be a resource hog when the use of too many third-party plug-ins come into play and there are better emerging technologies now than WordPress. WordPress is "winning" because it's so well-known, I believe.

In its simplest and purest form, WordPress is a blogging platform. Its main function is to allow it's users to easily write and publish articles and other content. However, WordPress became something much more than that. It became a complete Content Management System thanks to its developers and supporters. WordPress now allows you to completely manage and modify a site the way you want it. You can create a forum out of WordPress, you can create an online store, heck you can even created a social networking site by using the BuddyPress plugin. That is how powerful WordPress has become. And we are so lucky to have it.
