Hi everyone,
I am busy with my website I do WordPress sites, ebooks and copywriting work. I am in two minds about putting my pricing structure on my site.
I need some opinions, please. What's is the pros and cons of putting pricing on the site? are you offering price on your sites or hide them till your clients ask about them?

For me when hiring someone or a company to do a website design, I usually do not really care about the price and mostly care about their past work then if I like what they have done for other companies, I would go ahead and ask for a price.

I think it is up to you but setting a set price would just not work as every website is different and client of yours would have different needs.
I think that keeping them hidden would work much better for you as I can see how you can show prices without confusing the client. It may appear straight forward but the client would usually end up asking how much would the price rise if I want this specific thing done, which is very common.

You could check some of your competitors in your niche, you can put price for some services and for other put on require or ask for price. Its depend what are your services.
For some basic staff you can put price for some more advanced you can leave it for clients to ask.

I don't know what can I say about pros and cons its vary from niche to niche .
PPL can see price and make or change mind, its very hard to predict visitor behavior.

IMHO Showing pricing can be good sometimes and bad other times. It can be good to show the pricing for your services if you have very competitive pricing. If you have higher pricing, even if the quality of what you offer is better, it can cost you customers/clients. By showing pricing you are taking a chance that people will like your pricing and want to buy your services. If what you offer is a higher price than many others offer than that can cost you potential sales.

I would say that if you have very competitive prices then you should show them. If you have higher prices then I would not show them. This way you can have a chance to explain exactly what you are offering and why your services are worth the extra cost over the lower priced services.

Many people look at just the prices and not what else is included or how good the quality of the services are, so by showing them you need to make sure that your prices are on par with the lower prices for the same services to be found elsewhere.

Good luck. ;)

From my understanding you are talking about "Showing prices for web developing etc".

Because of the service nature you can't have fixed prices so showing such will lead to other questions from your future customers.

If we are talking about service such webhosting then showing prices is important :)

IMHO if you are offering services which are valued based on skills, set a range and what you will do based on the prices in that range.
It is good to give your clients a clue as to what they will get.
I have this experience in web design which is always an ugly one. Clients are never satisfy. But when you make clients understand what they will get, they will not demand more than what they paid for.

If you are web designer and you set a range then you risk to not have the chance to explain and make clients understand what they will get :). After all the point is to make the potential client to contact you!

I think you should display prices on your site. It looks more professional and authenticate when there is some set of information about the services, prices and terms of services.
There should be a way of getting custom orders/prices and also negotiating with you.

I have to agree with you, showing prices on hosting sites will be more convenient for customers know what they will pay for and which specs they will get.
For web hosting packages, I will not contact the providers if they don't show price for each hosting plan, web hosting need to be clear everything.

You should definitely show prices.

Why:
- it is easy2check for the customer (even though customer won't choose your business you could predict why - based on analytics tools such as google analytics, heatmaps)
- it is fast there is no another step to get the price (I mean that step to write an email with a demand that I need this and this with this requirements etc)
- in the best case, you could make a promos action based on prices
- you can work with pricing psychology (I would recommend you to read this article)
- you are honest to customers (you don't want to hide something)
- you don't have any footnotes (again honesty) - it varies from business
- what about some automatic calculation based on selected configuration?

Even though I tried hard I didn't find any cons to show pricing list.

It may be possible and beneficial to take advantage of both at the same time. For instance, you could test showing some of the prices of your common packages. For instance, starter @ $10 / month, standard @ $20 / month, and enterprise would be "call for quote" and this will enable you to be flexible enough to play with both until you figure out what works.

It depends on you, if you services or products have variant things or extra services, you should not add a fix price on them, but if you are offering services as web hosting, ebooks, you should showing prices obviously so it is more convenient for your customers.

I prefer to see pricing myself. Nothing worse than reading page after page only when it comes to the pricing you have to request such information by quote button, even worse if you go through the hassle of that (everyone is busier than ever these days) only to find the service is out of your budget, etc. I think maybe quote only is suitable for expensive hosting like Dedicated Servers, but that's about it. For Shared/Reseller/VPS might as well show the pricing.

I like to see pricing up front that way I can determine if it is within my project range. So that being said, most sites do not show their pricing. So when you show your pricing on your site, I consider that a benefit.

There are some good points made above and something that I would like to add is that if you do decide to show pricing you might want to put something like a "Starting at", "As low as" or something along those lines and show your lowest price for that product or service.

I agree with @energizedit in that for me seeing prices is a benefit or at least it is in most cases but it will vary depending on what exactly you are selling.

I think for what you do with freelancing you should always negotiate a price, and never accept an offer if you feel like you're getting ripped off. The worst someone can do is say they don't want your services, but you should still be fair and give a generous offer to the people who deserve it. It's really on a case-by-case basis depending on how much work is involved. Each client is different.
