Hello @WHtalk
Since your priority is speed, You should look for the highest specs however do not be fooled with really high specs which might in reality be virtual and not dedicated.

For example we always dedicated RAM however some hosts do not dedicated RAM and your RAM is actually shared.
When choosing a CPU pay as much attention to the model of CPU as you would with the number of cores. with a VPS, cores are most likely virtual which is no issue for CPU. Go for E3 v3 CPU or E5
Be sure to choose SSD, this can make a huge difference in your speed.
Check the uplink and be sure the uplink is 1Gbps as VPS is already sharing uplink so if the uplink is 100Mbps shared, you will face slow speeds.

If you want the fastest for that budget you should go for unmanaged hosting as you can get higher specs.

I don't see this in VPS offers

Dediacted RAM means the amount of RAM which you are purchasing is dedicated to you. If it was to be shared, a user abusing that RAM could mean you would get less speed.

How many CPUs should I have to get the fastest speed?
processor you shouldn't worry about much as its the RAM and storage which matters the most.
It comes down to what you want to run and how heavy it is.

What is uplink?
I don't see this in VPS offers
Uplink is the the connection speed of the VPS/Dedicated to the internet.
1Gbps is what you should be going for with your budget. 1Gbps on a VPS means that the dedicated which the VPS is hosted on will have 1Gbps connection which is then shared between the VPS hosted on it.
This is why you would want to get VPS from a provider who does not over sell their servers.

You can go for a cheap Dedicated server however I wouldn't recommend that if you are not familiar with the basic terms. On a VPS you can get support which will help you out a lot.

Like @Luxin said, be careful with the virtualization technology used. It's not always clearly written, but if you see a VPS with "burst" RAM, don't buy it.
SSD are required and for the uplink, it's pretty hard to know what is the real speed, but it should not impact your website if you have a least a stable 50Mbps.

As control panel I recommend Plesk, like many other members here because it's a user friendly control panel, with very good performances

50Mbps is still too low, a minimum of 90+Mbps you should get with your budget.
yes it is very hard to find the real speed, you should ask support for minimum uplink you would get and if its not as promised request a refund
I agree, with this budget 100Mbps is the miniumum

Yes I saw this in a VPS offer, I think it will boost load speed for my site because it was "burst".

Why I should not buy it.
A VPS should have guaranteed resources. You can have burst on the network speed, that mean you will be able to get more if you need it. But for the RAM, there should not have any burst.
Or take the lowest number as real amount of RAM.

The resources which you choose must depend on the visitors you are expecting on your website. If you expect huge number of visitors you should go with higher configuration server.

I would suggest you to go with managed vps and you can surely find a managed vps with this budget. The reason why I suggest you to go with managed vps is that, from these queries its clear that you are not that good with server management stuffs. Also the best and the user friendly control panel in my view is WHM/cPanel and most managed hosting providers offer it free with their servers.

If anyone mentions "burstable RAM" on a VPS this means that the company uses OS virtualization - OpenVZ or Virtuozzo. It is not bad at all, you just need to know that there are much better virtualization platforms with Xen and Kernel-based VM among them.

The stability and the performance of any virtualized environment does not depend on the underlying CPU as anyone suggested above (as long as it is a reasonably new hardware and CPU is complaint with the instruction in the latest versions of the virtualization platforms). The speed depends of the virtualization technology used on the underlying physical infrastructure and also of the overall quality of the network.

For the CPU, you can't really know how much it's shared with other VPS.
The RAM is the only part of a VPS which is not shared, so more you have RAM, better it is.
For the disks, choose always SSD disks, and avoid VPS with any other kind of storage.
For the configuration, for me Plesk is a must for performance, and it provide you all the features to have a fast and secured website.

The fastest VPS will have enough CPU to not have slow down (very hard to know before ordering), a good amount of RAM (4GB - 6GB - 8GB), and SSD storage.
But even with that, from a package to another, you will not have the same performance. it's why it's pretty hard to choose an hosting provider.

For the CPU, you can't really know how much it's shared with other VPS.
It makes me confused, it is impossible to check a CPU is shared or dedicated?

I think with budget $60, its also hard to have dedicated CPUs

Choose KVM Technology, Dedicated RAM, E5 OR E3 V3 Xeon CPU, SSD Drives, ask for average uptime, ensure its 1Gbps Port and that not too many clients are packed into one 1Gpbs server.

what ever is not mentioend on the provider's website, ask their support team via live chat or open a ticket/send an email.

Things not to go for:
Lower than E3 V1 processor, Unless server is dual CPU
Mechanical storage drives
lower than 1Gbps
lower than 99% Uptime
burst RAM

You can easily find out the information above by asking the hosting provider.
Cool advice, I will keep in mind these features when dealing with my hosting provider.

thanks for sharing!

It's the current problem with several hosting providers, they have totally destroy the line there is between dedicated and shared. When I read " a VPS is a virtual dedicated server", it's like trying to say "the page is white black".
And for the customers, there is no way to check the CPU or the disk speed before you order. And if you haven't a root access, you will not be able to do it even after the purchase.
With a control panel, you will see if your website is slow or fast, but it will be the only factor to know if the VPS is good.

So my first advice is to avoid all very big company like bluehost, godaddy, hostgator, dreamhost. and try to find an provider who can answer to very simple question like "you CPU is it shared ? do you use SSD, the bandwidth is guaranteed or it's in burst mode ? " and you will see at first, if they have a technical support and not only someone to help you to use your credit cart.
And also, what are their answer, if it's too beautiful to be true, go away ^^

This is a known "issue" with almost all USA providers.
Most of them are hiding the CPU core speed and type of RAM.

There is difference between 0.8Ghz vs 2 vs 3.4Ghz and lol did you know that there are still providers who are on DDR2 which again is slower than DDR3 etc .

We believe that resources and the type of it is the most important part of an VPS information.

Let's take for example our VPS's which are coming with 3.4Ghz CPU , Samsung SSD and DDR3 RAM.

Having this information set leads to more trust and of course more customers.

@OP with your budget you can get really nice and fast semi-managed box with SSD storage , fast CPU core(s) 200Mbps guaranteed bandwidth speed and DDOS protection.

Most of our customers prefer semi-managed which means that they are receiving ready for use box . Which means that they have to do pretty much nothing else than upload their websites. Once set if you don't play with the configurations the chance to break something is close to zero :)

Reasons to avoid cheap VPS hosting : There are like hundred reasons to avoid cheap hosting , the 5 most important are:

- Overselling
- Low quality
- Bad support
- Downtime
- Datacenter in House garage (plenty of them in USA).

Best Regards,
CyberHour

P.S: Don't be cheap with your hosting provider ... unless you are not looking for headache :)

Yes some of the points cant be verified however you can easily see the difference after you order. (one more reason to go for a VPS provider that provides refunds)

As VirtuBox said do go for smaller companies as most including us need to provide the top speed in order to compete with larger companies who spend a lot of money on SEO and advertisement. You will get a better customer support and better connection speed (not in all cases).

"better connection speed (not in all cases)" ; Because servers are smaller and are shared with less people therefore a better uplink. yes there is the chance of the company lying about the uplink speed but you can ask them for a guaranteed uplink or average uplink speed, if that suits you, you have a guarantee on the uplink speed or refund.
Use paypal as they help if the company decides to go back on their word, although again smaller companies take a lot of damage from bad reviews therefore they mostly want to keep you happy rather than take your money.

I have to agree on this because smaller hosting companies spend less on SEO and advertisements hence their price is lower but better support because they have less customers they will need to keep and care them carefully. Big hosting companies have more customers hence losing some are not a problem with them.

But for small hosting companies they can resell offers from big companies for fast profits and I am afraid of that and don't have any ways to check they are owning some real hosting servers for offering to their customers.

Most of the small hosting companies will resell an offer, but for VPS for example, that mean they will make money on a server you could not pay alone by selling it in small parts.
So you should not have too much issues with the VPS. With shared hosting, it's another problem.

Hello David,
First of all I want to make it clear, we are NOT saying that ALL USA datacenters are cheap!
What we are saying is that there are a lot of "datacenters" which are actually in garage which of course are not what we mean when we say Datacenter :)

Four main things come together to determine your server response time:

Website Traffic - More traffic, more problems.
Website Resource Usage - If each of your webpages used less resources, you could improve server response time and not spend money.
Web Server Software - If you change your web server software or configuration you likely could improve server response time and not spend money.
Web Hosting - If you improve the quality and scope of your web hosting you can improve your server response time, but you will have to spend money.

Thanks

I found some dedicate hosting companies are offering dedicated servers around my budget, I should select a dedicated instead? I am not sure a dedicated server will be faster than a vps but at least in terms of web hosting field, a dedicated server can be always better than a VPS which I think it will help me to have a fastest hosting server as wanted.

Thanks for your advice and I never choose a VPS under $20, I know it can host my websites but for the speed which I need for my websites, that will be not enough to help a website defeat other websites when checking with page speed test tools as pingdom or gtmetrix..etc

As I see your concern is loading speed of your websites, you can achieve this in several ways, one of them is use a CDN they will cache you static content and distribute to their servers around the world so any request in any country far from your server will be deliver imediate, another aproach is to minify your css, javascripts and pictures on your website and does not depend on the server also the css load position is very important on a loading speed.

This is something that many people don't realize or think about when looking to speed up the load times or their websites. It won't always make a big difference in speed but it can sometimes so it should always be something to look into.

This method is what I am applying for my website on a VPS 2 Cores.
If I upgrade to 4 cores or 8 cores? this will improve loading speed for my websites and I will have a fastest VPS

You got some good answers already but I do want to stress that there are other things besides the things that you listed that will impact how fast your websites will load.

I am not a host or even an expert on all the technical aspects but having identical specs on two different hosting providers can net you some noticeably different load times from one to the other.

I myself am trying to learn about all the different aspects that play a role in website load speed and have already learned that the key specs that are displayed on the hosting order pages don't always tell the whole story about the entire system.

I'm looking at possibly getting a VPS myself and want it to be as fast as possible for my given budget. One thing that I am curious about is the impact of the CPU vs RAM on your VPS.

When choosing a VPS plan I am trying to find out if it's better to have more RAM resources or more CPU resources/cores. In a perfect world I would get as much of both as possible but if I had a budget and wanted the fastest VPS for my money and was to buy more of one or another, which would be better to have more of, RAM or CPU?

Its all about how u optimise your website and ads also about whether you are on HDD or SSD and the location of the VPS and the type of virtualization you are using. A well optimised site + KVM + nearby server location will 110% lead to maximum speed and efficiency

I don't think so, even you optimized your website best as possible then it will not be improved more if it is being hosted on a slow VPS.
Optimizing website needs to have a necessary condition to have 100% maximum speed is being hosted on a fast VPS.

A fast vps server dose not equate to a fast website, and to get a website to open fast all around the world is not easy, you can get 77ms tracert on a vps which is as good as it gets, but if your site is not optimized correctly the site could take 10 seconds to open. While if it was optimized correctly on the same vps it would only take 2 seconds to open. As far as open fast around the world if your in New York and your server is in New York then ban it opens but if that person is in say China think of the time to get a site to open 5000 miles away. Hope this helps
