I had been using WHOIS privacy protection for my domains for a long time. However, this year, when I was renewing my domains, I did not renew WHOIS privacy protection. I will closely monitor the effect on my website and domains. If there is no difference I will continue not to use WHOIS privacy protection.

Protect Your Email Address. When you use private domain registration, your registrar typically creates an alias or unique email address that is used in place of your own within the WHOIS database

I like this feature on domain registrars but I only use it when it is low price or free. On Godaddy, you might pay some dollars for this service.

Everyone must use Whois privacy protection.
WHOIS protection helps you to hide your identity and avoid frauds and mail spam.

Whois privacy is to hide your contact details from public eye normally email mining services uses whois data to get contact emails and send them marketing emails which can be avoided by whois privacy. Still it's not a compulsion if you do not want to use doesn't effect on your domain.
