I am using a shared hosting plan and I read more posts on the forum said that VPS has more advantages than a shared hosting hence I wanted to have a try, but I have no experience on choosing a VPS. In your personal thoughts, what should I consider when choosing a VPS hosting? please share your advice!

Thanks in advance.

Tim,

Your own VPS should be an option when you feel your site has outgrown what a shared hosting plan can provide or you want to be on your own server with full control over everything.
The specs required for your VPS depend on site(s) on your shared hosting plan and how much traffic and resources these sites get and use.

Most VPS plans allow you to upgrade instantly if you feel you need more power. I recommend a fully managed VPS if your not comfortable with linux system administration. Things can and do go wrong and need to be fixed fast. Managed services cost more but worth it, even if you can look after the server yourself it's one less thing to worry about having your server managed. Do you really want to be woke up at 4:00am because your server crashed.

Hello @djsmiley2k
Yes VPS has much more benefits when compared to shared however its not necessary if your website load time is currently decent.
If you do decide to get a VPS, be sure that it has SSD drives, 24/7 support (very important) and is managed as you seem to not have much knowledge about VPS.

What is managed?
in a summery managed is when most of the security and uptime of the VPS is handled by the hosting provider.
Unmanaged is simply the opposite.

Hello!

I would prefer more of unmanaged then managed, mainly because I like to have full control of everything, but its your person preference.

Cheers,

Marc A. :drinks:
