Do you ever ask for upfront payments when you're requested a hosting service by a new client?

You can discuss things through chat, emails or whatever tools your website has, but with a totally new client who you've never known them before, there's always a risk of fraud. So, simply put. Do you require for upfront payments or just offering a trial?

Best Regards,

Hi @Gonzalo
It all comes down to what hosting service it is. when it comes to dedicated and VPS, allowing free trial is just trouble and huge hassle due to illegal content being hosted or it being used for illegal activities.
however for smaller and less flexiable services such as shared hosting allowing the customer a trial period can be much more possible as it costs very little to manage and in general the user can instantly not use it for many malicious reasons.

Most hosting companies do not offer a free trial.

There are way too many spammers out there that will getba free account, blast out as much spam as they can the first month, then never renew the plan.

Some will also take a free trial account and try hacking the servers.

Offering a free trial is a bad idea and I would not want my sites on a host that offers this!

I agree with Luxin, it is hard to find a VPS or a dedicated that allow us use a trial these days, if I think that I can trust a web hosting provider then sending upfront payments is not a problem, I tried some VPS hosting providers, after some days, I can get refund from them if don't satisfy with services that they are providing me. It also happened some times.

That is the reasons why some hosting providers required proofs (photo ID, scan of address) to verify account?

Yes and no. Usually when ID verification is requested, it is because of a chance of credit card or other fraud.

I usually find it difficult to trust people therefore i would definitely ask for an upfront payment.

Transactions worldwide have lost that basic element of doing business with eachother which is Trust. Many have been scammed of there hard earned money and time.Situation where you offer a service, putting in effort, time and resources and at the end of the day,You don't get paid.

As for me,i would rather ask for a certain percentage upfront which I regard as commitment fee,This will show me how serious the client is(Although it doesn't work like that in all cases). There are still trustworthy people out there.
