With a decent budget I can go with a dedicated server but how it I split the budget into smaller ones to buy some VPS's with that budget.

So I can put websites on different VPS and IP addresses. when a VPS gets downtime then others are still alive. what do you think about this? which way is better? why?

Should I host all websites on a dedicated server? or multi VPS?

If you have a budget for a dedicated server you can choose it. The server downtime can be if DC made some work, also, if you buy a server you should think about server managing and install some server monitoring tools.
If you`ll choose VPS you should ask provider for VPS that is placed on different servers or networks, so if the one be down the other will work

It is great advice to use a dedicated server with monitoring tools but I have no idea about monitoring tools, which tools can monitor RAM, CPU usage, Disk space..etc without using tools from hosting providers?
I found that monitoring tools are offering too less on some VPS providers, they might want to hide some bad features from their clients.

If you`ll choose VPS you should ask provider for VPS that is placed on different servers or networks, so if the one be down the other will work
I agree with you, it's quite exact if we buy more VPS from same VPS provider.

if you have the technical side I suggest Dedicated as everything is in one place and you avoid other users bringing you down. Depending on what specs you need, Dedicated is not as expensive as it sounds and can be affordable as long as your multiple websites make enough profit.
If you wish, give me some specs you need or some specs about your website and I could try to find you a good priced Dedicated server on the internet.
or alternatively have a look at the great market place fwh has.
Kind Regards

I don't see any difference between a VPS and a dedicated server if they don't use shared RAM or using dedicated resources as RAM, CPUs.

Can you explain a bit more about that?

The short answer is much more reliable than VPS.
They are different and are intended for different users, you would purchase a VPS if you have a decently successful blog or website which receives a decent amount of request. (notice how I say decent: because it depends on the power of VPS).
A dedicated server is used for larger websites with more requests coming through.

Now to be more specific; A VPS is like many computers making many smaller computers in them which are connected using the cloud.

>The issue with this is that many VPS users can abuse their resources and effect other's performance which results in downtime, slower load time, etc.
>The good point is that there are many different computers connected together so if one goes down you will still have your website/app online.

A Dedicated is more like a powerful computer which is Dedicated to you and your website/app, so if you were to use a dedicated, your resources are not shared with any one else resulting in your choice of how you choose to spread your resources. dedicated servers are also refered to as bare metal as they are bare metal severver dedicated to the person renting the server which is why its more expensive.

>The good point is of course dedication.
>The negative point would be if your server goes down because data center faults then its down (there are systems that can be put in place to avoid this, sometimes its included by the data center.)

Hopefully that cleared things up for you, if not, do not hesitate to ask :)
if anyone has more points or corrections please do not hesitate to add or correct.

Kind Regards
Luxin

A properly configured dedicated server is still more reliable then a VPS.

If you are trying to provide a High Availability solution for one website by having ithe same site on multiple VPS's, then that's a option. Otherwise, I suggest a dedicated server.

I am wondering what are exact configurations that you are mentioning to for a dedicated server has more advantages than a VPS in this factor?

A Dedicated is more like a powerful computer which is Dedicated to you and your website/app, so if you were to use a dedicated, your resources are not shared with any one else resulting in your choice of how you choose to spread your resources. dedicated servers are also refered to as bare metal as they are bare metal severver dedicated to the person renting the server which is why its more expensive.
I agree with you and I will choose a dedicated server instead of using multi VPS because in my point of view, quality is always better than quantity, especially in this case.

Should I host all websites on a dedicated server? or multi VPS?
If it was me, I would choose a dedicated server. It would be easier for me to maintain one dedicated server over multiple VPS's. I am always short on time myself so having to handle multiple VPS's would take more time for me than just a single dedicated server.

I'm new here, but manages 100+ servers daily and I can say, there is no trouble with having all sites in a single server. If you properly configure it and maintain, you'll have less head-ache and saves money.

But when you have the problem on your server then all your websites there will be down.
This is special thing to avoid if you are doing online business and it is advised to split website into different servers although a server can host all your websites.

You didn't mention that VPS - Virtual Private Server is virtual machine and share resources with other VPS.
Example you can have 50 VPS on dedicated severs their recurses will be shared e.g. CPU in % or every VPS will have own core (dedicated server can have 2 processors with 40 cores), memory same on % or exact amount (dedi can have 20TB), disk space same % or can have 20GB or so and they share network protocol (Dedi can have multiple network cards with 10Gbits connection). So if you have VPS with designated CPU core you are safer and probably you will not have problems if other one have CPU problems(that is perfect in theory).

Many VPS are interconnect so they can make virtual cloud but only dedi is in true cloud 'cause they have physical connection.
Think that I'm successfully manage to confuse you more :)

A good solution to manage your websites on several vps can be to use Plesk Multi-server.

plesk-multi-server.gif

With this extension for Plesk Onyx, and available for free, you can easily manage your subscriptions/domain under several vps with a centralized DNS service and without having to manage each vps separatly.

Why not use two or more dedicated servers, then you have the additional reliability while still benefiting from having dedicated hardware. Nowadays you can get strong dedicated servers for rather low prices.

Host all website in dedicated server or vps(all VPS are in one dedicated) will be the same if the dedicated server is down. The only difference is that if you are hosting each websites in each VPS, you can provide root access or any access to the customer who owns one website in one vps, they are not able to access contents in other VPS if even they have the root access to the VPS.
We recommend you to host all websites in dedicated server so that you can use all the resource of the dedicated server for web hosting. If you split that dedicated servers into VPS which will use the resource for running virtualization too.

You can use dedicated IP for each website if you have multiple IPs in the server. Its just needed IP based virtual hosts in apache configuration.

Without a proper website isolation with software like cloudlinux, it's not really safe to host all websites on a single dedicated server, in case of attack/ddos/infection, you may loose all your data and all your websites will be done until you restore them from a backup.
And it's pretty hard to use all resource available on a dedicated server with a single MySQL instance. With virtualization systems like LXC, host server doesn't require a lot of resources, and you can use a MySQL instance for each website, or for a websites group.

SN1 and SN1 is still in same server, if your dedicated server is down then multi vps in this case will not be effective.
Yes, I'm talking about using several VPS instead of a dedicated server. It will not be more expensive, you will have redundant DNS nameservers and a single interface to manage all your websites.

IMO it's only really a good idea to choose a dedicated server over multiple VPS's if you can afford to have multiple dedicated servers too. There's always a chance that the dedicated server will go offline, either because the entire datacenter has, or because you messed up a config file somewhere...

I do suggest to have it on a dedicated server because it will gives you piece of mind for security. All traffics that will be produce in website is very risky and various types of hackers are all over the place. Dedicated server will eliminates phishing for those users who intended to get your information. Websites can easily shut down or injected b any virus, just maintain you site in a secured dedicated server.

The number of websites you can host on a dedicated server depends on many factors. If you have a website based on HTML design, you can host more websites due to the static nature of these websites. If your websites are CMS based, the RAM and the CPU on the server process must be increased for faster processing of the MySQL database requests. You will be able to host less number of CMS-based websites on the dedicated server than those based on HTML design. Bandwidth requirements also play an important role in accommodating websites.

if you have the technical side I suggest Dedicated as everything is in one place and you avoid other users bringing you down. Depending on what specs you need, Dedicated is not as expensive as it sounds and can be affordable as long as your multiple websites.
