Personally I have always liked cPanel myself but I have to admit that I really haven't given any other panels a good tryout.

Unfortunately nobody told me about the RAM needs of cPanel when I first started using it and learned that hard way that 1GB was not going to be the best for using cPanel.

Mihai,

I have to agree with your that Directadmin and light, and fast, and Cheap. Hands down cheap. As a remote administrator under contract I did have Clients that has DA in their Datacenter. The problem with DA is it still has features from 15 years ago. It still looks like it did 15 years ago, and they have yet to move into the RPM world that I am aware of. I have not looked at them recently. The last time I looked you still have to run a script to download all source and recompile everything. And AS a Linux Administrator I can not say I am apposed to that is critical systems of which I am going to be reponsible for patching and what not. BUT, for a potential hosting company, it leave so much out and increases time to manage.

If my recollection of DA is off and some things have changed please correct me.

I think users have no choice if their host providers decide for them which hosting panel should be use. Also cPanel has many benefits if provider sells it to their customers.

I have contacted Directadmin to ask about their control panel and they answered they updated their control panel regularly with components (php, apache, mysql, mariadb..etc) via their custombuild.
I don't know what features you are talking about but I think they are up to date.

Cpanel limits your authority on the server, but editing various function of your server. It also optimise/edit your kernel. So it would be far better to use Directadmin panel to use at it is lighter and is faster obviously.

If you are able to afford $14-$15 for cpanel license, then its best hosting control panel, but if you are looking for cost saving then you can go with centOS with Sentora control panel its completely free. Directadmin is also good, but cPanel is more user friendly and you will get more technical solutions online links.

I would start a new VPS with a paid hosting panel but getting confused in choosing one. Could you guys share me your experience which is better for manage an unmanaged VPS, Plesk or Cpanel or Directadmin? which one is better? why?
There is no doubt that cPanel is always a better option and cPanel is the most popular and using panel for the hosting, We are running a web hosting company since 2012 and using only cPanel hosting panel for our customers and never got any querry regarding other panels from our customers. so basically all of our customer from last few years never asked to change the panel of the hosting or something like. Cpanel has more features than any other panel in the market. You can manage cpanel with lots of other plugins which is available in the market for cpanel as compared to other panels. Also support of cpanel is also good, we have taken couple of support incident from cpanel team and they helped us very quick and supportively. As per my expereince with cpanel i can say that you should go with cPanel without any confusion.

I hope this will help you to choose the right hosting panel for you.

cPanel must be the first choice if you can afford it, why? Because all the companies are using it, being honest but i have rarely seen companies using Plesk, or Directadmin

It is really not true, it is quite possible the companies to get across provided cpanel. There are some companies, which I know provide plesk panel, there are people who have never used cpanel. Even ISP is being used by hosting providers. So I really think that cpanel is not only solution for web-server.

What do you want to do ?

Host a lot of sites ?

Go whit cpanel, plesk, DA or any panel whit support, cpanel is good choise fast support.

If you want to host just a 2 or 3 domains or not want to pay 15 USD for license to whit vestacp or CWP or any free panel.

If you need support better way is paid panel.

Hello,
I am using Cpanel and plesk both so i would recommend Cpanel it gives lots of features and could be easily control by the person.
Same with Plesk also but I would be slightly biased with Cpanel.

cPanel:
If you want a Windows server, you can't use cPanel.
The cost of cPanel varies depending on whether or not you install it on a dedicated server or a VPS. The latter costs around half as much as the former with a yearly license of $200 as opposed to $425 for the dedicated version.

Plesk:
Unlike cPanel, Plesk offers support for a much wider variety of operating systems including variations within Linux itself. In addition to the three Linux OSs supported by cPanel, Plesk can also run on Ubuntu, Debian, and openSUSE.
Like its primary competitor, Plesk also has two separate schemes for VPS and dedicated installations. Unlike cPanel however, Plesk has a much wider range of licenses depending on the number of domains you wish to host, whether or not you want to include packs like WordPress and the developer toolkit, and whether you want to bundle it with CloudLinux.

DirectAdmin:
Like cPanel, DirectAdmin also only runs on Linux systems, specifically RedHat, CentOS, FreeBSD, and Debian.
As far as pricing options go, DirectAdmin certainly has the simplest setup with no distinction between VPS and dedicated environments. For a recurring payment, you can either choose a monthly, quarterly, or yearly license.

easy to administrate and learn
This is the reason why I choose cPanel, their UI is very friendly and easy to learn, even you have not read user guide before using :D

In windows best web hosting panel is Plesk panel

In linux best web hosting panel is cpanel
Why Plesk is better for windows, I was recommended to use for Linux.

We've used Plesk for around 3 months then we decided to move to cPanel and we haven't looked back, perfect also if your using a Linux + CentOS.

If you are using Windows OS then you wont be able to use cPanel and you'd need to decide from the remaining ones, i'd try them both out and see which you are most comfortable with.

Personally I feel cPanel has an increasingly 'dated' feel to it and is by no means the most efficient at a server resource level; the only reason we would offer it to our own clients is because its such a well known brand name, that many users have 'only' really heard of cPanel for Unix/Linux hosting... much of its success rides now on its name (and the skillful reseller packages / positioning they have so far made, encouraging it to be bundled by ISP's). There are many up-and-coming alternatives both paid and free, and for my personal preference I do like the feel of Interworx (...although only for Redhat / CentOS). Take a look if you haven't already tried it.

In some regards Interworx takes it's lead from cPanel, with a split server and user-land management (NodeWorx / Interworx) design, and in other ways its more progressive and with a wealth of developer API options. It will also allow you to update the software automatically so can help the less tech-savvy users to feel more secure, and it performs some (so far limited) clustering options that may well be good going forward. One bug bear I do have is that CloudLinux have not opted to directly support it, but you can via the command line (e.g. no nice integration of screens etc.)... although CloudLinux are also not the 'only game in town' for self-healing server OS's (even the base Linux Kernel has update without reboot options these days).

DirectAdmin is nice due to their update process. They seem to only push updates which are fully-tested.

All of the panels serve the same or very similar purpose, so in a way, they are alike regarding their main functionality. As a person who has tried all of them, I would say that Plesk and cPanel look more attractive and easy to use due to its modern look in comparison to DirectAdmin for a new user. Most of our customers choose cPanel over DirectAdmin because it is more common and known, the community is and documentation is huge, which helps.

However, you should consider some factors when choosing a panel: OS you are going to use, price budget, available online support/community. It is not hard to switch between these if you found one not convenient for you
