Well, they are all generic TLD's save for .io, which is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the British Indian Ocean Territory.
.io is pretty popular, specifically with tech companies that want to take advantage of the whole input/output thing (IO).

All these TLDs are available and you can easily get these domains from any of the main domain registrars. There are hundreds of options for your but you cannot get 100% custom TLD, there are some restrictions and limitations.

lately there have been a lot of new extensions that have and are coming out. Some are a little weird but some are cool and make sense. Most are all open for anyone to register as long as they are willing to pay the registration fees.

Some of the new ones work well for certain uses like the one that this forum uses, ForumWeb.Hosting. It looks good and works well for this site because it give an explanation as to what kind of material you will find on this site.

Some of the new extension will really not make sense unless they are used for the right purpose.

I don't understand the sense behind some of these new ones. I saw an article a couple days ago on this topic and was looking through the list and saw some that I really don't understand why these were even made. Some like .pink or .blue just seem like a limited amount of uses. Maybe it's just me because I haven't been around the workings of websites long but they just sound silly.

As all you know that domain name (DN) is one of the most important part in your website. For easy to understand, it's the web address of your website. If someone wants to visit your website, he must to know and remember your website's address-name, instead of remembering the IP address. It works like your home address, it need to be easy to remember and easy to find.

There're thounsand of domain name extensions nowadays, each will represent niche, market or something fun in the world, however some of popular extensions are .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ,…are used most, they're called gTLD

Hope this helps.

Just recently we wrote a Namecheap review and we included all the new gTLDs they offer. There are like 370+. It's crazy. And that's just from Namecheap, imagine how much more there are if you combine some offers from other providers too (though I think namecheap have them all). Maybe 400?

We're in 2017, and 99% of the .com's and .net's have been taken and so they've come up with alternatives to give more people the chance to use a particular name. It's a shame that a lot of the domains people would like to use are already taken and have not been used for several years, what a waste! So the only option is to either come up with a different name or use the same name but with a different domain extension.

It's all good now. It isn't all about .com and .net anymore.

Strangely though most of my frequently visited sites are all some form of .com* or .net* still. Probably exception would be this forum itself with .hosting :)

I wonder if that's because Google rank .com and .net higher in SERPs because they bring in more revenue as I suggested in this post https://forumweb.hosting/14486-is-org-a-good-domain-extension.html?p=89663#post89663

Thousands of sites are affiliate-driven to trick consumers and make money from unbiased reviews. Who's to say Google wouldn't do the same? Business is business. :)

For the record, I don't condone the above, but more sites do it than people realise.

Yeah, i can't think of the many times i have search for "best web hosting" and found a bunch of sites listing Hostgator, Site5, Bluehost, lol.

But i think confirmation bias might also be in play, as those TLDs have existed for so long and most people who wants a website still have the old idea that .com is for commercial, .org is for organizations, .net is for internet(?), etc. As web developers and so called serial entrepreneur getting younger & younger i've seen more cool stuff with weird tld extension. I've seen a bunch of startup using .co, .io, and .ly, and they're ranking just fine since their core demographics doesn't care about tld extensions. Fontawesome, statuspage and cachet use .io, and if you search for status page you get statuspage.io in the first place. :)

Yes, you are right there are various domain extensions available on the internet such as .com, .net, .job, .design and .org, but mostly people use .com. Some domain extensions are available for mobile example .mobi. You can also use domain extension according to specific industry such as .travel, .job, .design, .store etc.

These new domains are most of them are sTLD (Sponsored Domain Names), these are based on industries. These domain tlds would be perfect for industry based, for example .hotels for hostels, .host for web hosting, .jobs for job search and many more.

I have also noticed a lot of niche domain extensions are available. You can get domains for your profession dot engineer, dot accountant etc. You can get a domain for specific area siuch as dot TV, dot news etc. You can even get domains such as dot hosting (this forum uses dot hosting). Some of these domains are very popular where are some of these domain extensions are not known to the public.

It's always recommended to sue the general TLDs because the TLDs which are unable to explain the meaning of the website are useless. If you will use the TLD s which are widely used over the world in their respective filed the definitely attackers the more visitor for your website. Result will be, it will help to grow your business.
