I just got a VPS with Ubuntu 14.04 installed to it. I need to install Virtualmin on it to set it up. But Virtualmin needs a host name associated with the VPS to get it installed. I already have a domain with NameCheap. How can I use it on the VPS and get Virtualmin installed ?

Hi meetdilip,

Follow these steps to change your hostname (taken from http://askubuntu.com/questions/9540/how-do-i-change-the-computer-name):

Edit /etc/hostname, make the name change, save the file.
You should also make the same changes in /etc/hosts file
Run sudo /etc/init.d/hostname restart or sudo service hostname restart

Your domain name will need to point to your VPS. Are you running your own nameservers?

Thank you. But I found an option in VPS panel to solve the issue. How do I set name servers to my VPS ?

Hi meetdilip,

That's good.

You would have to create child nameservers for the domain name at your domain registrar. Those child nameservers should point to the IP address of the VPS, if that's where the nameservers are. It'll be necessary to create an A record for your hostname, as well. You'll probably be able to do that using the control panel.

Your domain registrar should have more documentation on the subject.
