HTTP to HTTPS for better rankings on search engines?

I have always refrained from using Google's methodologies. It is always good to experiment in SEO, as majority of the sites which are dominating on serps do not even have sites running on Https as of yet.

Whenever we change the HTTP to HTTPS, surely, it affects the ranking in the Google's SERP.

Why not to add 's' at the end of http. Because it's easy to rank now a days. And I have seen lots of website already did this.
