I know some people will create an eBook for selling online or to promote their forum or blog. Sometimes they offer the book for free to build a list. It is meant to bring more visitors to their forum and blog. It is used as a marketing technique. What about you? Have you ever published an eBook and what is your purpose when publishing it?

All kinds of ebooks over the years. For all the reasons you mentioned and more. Though a majority are reports, or short ebooks.

Obviously I create many to sell. Also for listbuilding or lead magnets. Done some for document sharing sites, though never saw great results from that route.

While not ebooks I've created a number of FAQ or how-to's for my customers. Again, usually short reports, like 10-15 pages.

One other thing that so many seem to balk when I say it, I create reports just to give away, free to download. Most people say, "Oh you should make them opt-in!". While they are not wrong, I like to try and cover all my bases, like to get those people who don't want to give up their email address.

Also, not really ebooks, when I write long blog posts, I try to remember to turn them into PDF's, and link a download at the end of the blog post.

Naturally, everything I create has my name and website links in it. Always marketing :)

I used to use a WP plugin that would convert your posts into a downloadable PDF, .ePub & .mobi for the reader. I think it's called Read Offline Plugin. And for very, very long post it's very useful and my readers appreciated it. Of course the other benefit is that they can read it offline or send it to people, share it with others but you've basically made a readable, downloadable PDF of your long post on the fly. Very cool plugin.

As for me, I've never write my own eBook, although I have been working on one now for about a year but I've been so sidetracked with other things I've not had time to complete it. That one is for people who are thinking about taking dieting/weight loss pills and shows why you shouldn't take them and rely on them to loose weight with. It's basically an anti-XLS medical report. I actually started it off a guide I read on how to make money selling eBooks on eBay by finding a top selling product then creating a report on why you shouldn't buy/use that product. I actually had some success with a very early version of it and then decided to write a much bigger much better version of it which I really should get round to finishing and posting on eBay.

I've had a lot of success in the past simply reselling other eBooks that came with full MRR. I'm sort of duplicating that success with eBookListr but it's very early days right now. :)

I've seen those plug-ins, think I might have even tried one. But have not really seen the need myself.

I write all my blog posts in Word (need all the spell check and grammar help I can get), so it's very easy, just a couple clicks, to turn it into a PDF. Plus, I can edit the DOC version however I want, add my links, customize it, ect, before turning it into the PDF.

Yes I've written an Ebook. You can check my thread here as there is some great info contained in the thread.

There are many ways you can utilize an eBook for marketing. Or you could just sell th eBook as an informational piece.

Cheers

Hi melanymaldena,

I have a free ebook I am promoting at present.

It is the front end to a funnel consisting of two other software products.

It has affiliate links included to some services, and links to some other products I own.

As it is, it is a viral report that can be given away, or clients can purchase the branding software I offer in the funnel to make it their own.

Basically you set up tags to replace any content you may need to in the document template.

You can set up the rights documents and the instructions too to be rebranded so you can offer a complete solution.

You can then sell the document re-branding tool, and also sell the rebranding tool to rebrand the rebrander so your clients will end up with a free document with links, and a rebranding tool to sell, both branded in their own name.

I guess that is sort of a PLR product.

You can password protect the tools as well.

I used Software Product Magic to create these products.

This is just one of many things that software will allow you to do.

I'll promote that file in my sig when I get that option available to me here actually. :>)

cheers, Mal.
