Traditional way of transferring files to web hosting is use FTP programs but I feel it's pretty slow. Are there any ways to upload very large files to a shared or a VPS fastest as possible...i.e 5GB or 10GB?

File transfer speeds fluctuate widely based on SEVERAL factors.

One of which, as HostSlim mentioned, is the speed of YOUR connection,
as well as the speed of the receiving server.

In addition, you need to find out whether your ISP or the receiving host
company uses any form of throttling. Many ISPs promote super fast upload
and download speeds, but, if you read the fine print, it's usually fastest
for the first 10 or 20 MB only, after which, the upload/download speed
slows down tremendously.

Other factors include your overall local system specs (ram, processor, etc.)

You have to remember, when uploading/download a file, the 2 systems are
writing information back and forth, so other factors come in to play as well.

Keep in mind that most residential internet providers will limit upload speeds to between 1.5-3Mbps (300Kb/s Max). Also keep in mind that traditional file transport methods may be throttled by your ISP as well to less than 100Kb/s as well... There are a lot of factors to consider.

The *fastest* method would probably be peer to peer.

I use FTP, Filezilla, for most everything, because for me it's kind of set it and forget it. Start the transfer and let if go in the background while I do something else. Well, unless you connection is that slow?

How long does it take to upload 5Gig?
