Hey there, What do you think what is the best CMS out there if you want to build a news or magazine site? Of course it needs highly SEO-able and easy to customize. I know more people here will suggest Wordpress or Joomla but do you have any alternatives?

Why not search Google if you're just looking for a list of CMS types? You don't give any parameters as to what constitutes the "best" CMS given that you want what WP does well, but you don't want it. I would worry about getting traffic and making it profitable more than working even harder just to get another CMS to hop and skip like WP.

Drupal has nice templates for magazines. Wordpress has a larger community and more themes, but perhaps you will be more comfortable with other CMS. The best way to know it is to try 2 or 3 to compare them and choose the one that fits your needs best.

I have to agree, there are SO many very nice magazine theme's for wordpress. They can do some pretty amazing things these days. With drag and drop you can make the layout in so many different ways.

Never used any other CMS, so maybe my opinion is not a good one. :)

I have a couple of magazine-style sites going. I have used Wordpress for each. Any CMS is really what you make of it though. In the end, the only real advantage of Wordpress over other options is that it is so widely used. If you have a problem, it is more likely you will be able to find a quick solution to fix it.

I am using the Avada theme for my sites and would highly recommend it. It is HIGHLY customizable.

WordPress, because its very simple to work with, as in case of online newspaper or magazine, new content need to be added regularly, so WordPress CMS is the best choice this purpose.

Though I am still building the website, I have an online newspaper. I have used wordpres for my online newspaper. I am using a free magazine theme called Color Mag. The theme is well suited for online newspaper and magazine. It has ads units on the header and side bars. The theme is also highly costomizible. I think wordpresss is best CMS for online magazine or newspapers. As suggested by commentators above, Drupal might be good, however, you need skills to use drupal. With wordpress, you don't need any programing skills.

Been using the ColorMag theme for WP and it's working very well for my site. Pretty decent for a free theme IMO which you should try out!

It's very easy to make a newspaper or magazine type of website with WordPress and you can do it with very little web design know-how! All you have to do is:
-Download the WordPress installer and install it in your website (here's a link to the WordPress site)
-Set up a few plugins like Jetpack and Ad Injection
-Go to Appearance --> Themes
-Go to add new theme and search for the words "newspaper" or "Magazine"

A lot of themes would show up. It is just a matter of selecting a theme that you like and installing and applying it to your site. There's even a live preview so that you could try it out before applying it completely to your website. Go with WordPress bro.

Hands down wordpress, there are so many newspaper and magazine to chose from that it's not even funny. And the best part is most of them are free.

P.S. I read a article the other day and it said that Wordpress is powering 50% of the websites on the internet today!

Many years ago we used to recommended Joomla/Mambo but now i agree that wordpress is much better.
WP has a great community of people developing great themes, require less server resources and is very stable.
Just buy your theme from a good developer/company.

If you are OK with templating yourself, why not try Laravel with something like October CMS? That is highly customisable, can be built for scale and is very secure.

Your first step should be which CMS ?
and you second should be which theme, plugins etc

I agree with the previous posts WordPress, is a lot easier than Drupal and Joomla. You will find more themes, plugins and community support with WordPress, but if you need a the faster CMS then choose Drupal, but more pain :)

WordPress is an easy-to-use platform, but when you want to promote your website, you may encounter many flaws. How about Magento? Did you think to move your E-commerce Store to Magento?

Does Magento have any advantages over Woocommerce?

Of course
Only problem - his price.
However, CMS has a simple structure and easy to use.

A look at their features

WooCommerce
Completely free platform.
Requires you to find your own web host.
Supports unlimited products.
Supports nearly all WordPress themes, and offers a myriad of customization options.
Comes with an extension system and hundreds of options.
Includes basic security features to protect your store.
The platform is remarkably easy-to-use.

Magento
Offers a free Community version, as well as several premium services.
The Community version is self-hosted, but their premium offerings include hosting.
Enables you to add unlimited products.
Offers a theme-based system and a decent variety of options.
Supports extensions and offers a wide variety of them too.
Offers advanced security features, as well as dedicated patches to close any vulnerabilities that arise.
Recommended for users that have (at least) a basic level of web development knowledge.
Magento’s Community Edition is open-source and free for anyone to use, so your only cost will be based on your current hosting provider. On the other hand, users who are interested in the Enterprise Edition will have to shell out a pretty penny.

While Magento is a fantastic option for well-established stores with an enormous number of clients, you won’t find anything better than WooCommerce for your trading startup.

Another drawback is that if you don’t have a WP-based website, it might be a problem, as WooCommerce is only suitable for websites set up on this CMS. Of course, you can completely rebuild and redesign your shop, but it is quite time-consuming and won’t make your life easier.
In addition, you can’t store or host any of your website files with Woo. For this purpose, you should pick the right hosting provider.

Similarly to performance, your online store’s security is in large part up to you.

Both WooCommerce and Magento enable you to implement several advanced security measures, but mostly through extensions and manual tweaks. However, while no platform can be 100% secure, Magento takes the lead in this aspect by offering dedicated security patches to its users.

If you take security seriously – and you have some experience with web development (or don’t mind paying for help) – Magento is the clear winner.

I think Wordpress its the best one CMS recently. Why? Because using this CMS, you can optimise some features inside, especially for SEO purpose. If you want to maximise your SEO strategies for your news or magazine blog, here some tips that might be you are interested :
  1. choose the responsive theme and mobile friendly
  2. installing SSL certificate for security purpose
  3. choose fast loading theme
  4. build on reliable hosting to avoid interuption
  5. installing caching plugin
  6. installing SEO plugin
  7. choose the news or magazine theme with good and simple visualisation
And many more tips that you can find on Google to get maximum results.

My suggestion would be again WordPress and Joomla. There are many hosting plans optimized for these CMSs, and there're tons of plugins, themes, and information in case you encounter a problem with the CMSs.
