Just because Google does not publish PageRank values publicly anymore, it does not mean that they do not use PageRank as a ranking algorithm anymore. In fact, it would suggest that they do use it and don't want people to know how they are using it. In my experience when I run into someone who says PageRank doesn't matter anymore, I usually discover that the person doesn't understand how PageRank really works. The more you learn about PageRank and the more you understand how it has changed from its original form, the more you will realize that it is very important for rankings especially as keywords become more competitive. You might not be able to measure it accurately, but it is still flowing around the web and being used by Google to sort out which pages they want to rank higher.

You need to work with a specific keyword. Create quality & authority backlinks for your individual keywords. Write some quality & reachable content. Hope you can reach your goal, if your content is good enough. But don't forget to create backlinks. Backlinks are most important for ranking on SERPs. But you should do it carefully. Stay away from exact match keywords. Just try to build natural backlinks. Actually, when you will write good and reachable content, People give you juice. That's called Link Earning. :)

Hello Gustav,

Content sharing is the best method to achieve good ranking. Do OFF page task like:

Article Submission
Press Release Submission
Blog Posting
Guest Posting
Web 2.0 Submission

When you say your website has many topics, are these topics related in any way? Or are they just a collection of random topics like you would find on a typical article directory?

If your site is similar to an article directory with a whole bunch of unrelated articles about random topics, then you are going to find it tougher to rank. That is generally a bad business model in my opinion.

The best approach for SEO on a site-wide basis to group your content according to topicality and create something called a "content silo". Relevant pages should be grouped together and link to each other using relevant anchor text ideally.

If you have a website full of topically related pages (a niche specific website), then you should do lots of internal linking from one page to another within your own website using contextually embedded anchor text rich dofollow hyperlinks. Then get some PageRank to your website by getting links from the highest quality sources you are capable of getting it from using whatever means you have at your disposal to get those links. The more PageRank the source pages of your inbound links have, the better.

Don't waste your time getting lots of crappy low quality inbound links thinking that they will add up. Spend your time getting a handful or more of the best links you can get. Get them however you can while avoiding the most obvious forms of link spam.

It is also time well spent making sure your pages are giving search engine visitors what they are looking for. That makes it easier to get ranked high and easier to stay ranked high, especially if your site has barely enough inbound link juice to get you ranked high.

Ranking for more keywords is no more difference with ranking for a keyword, you can apply SEO techniques when doing SEO for a keyword for them.

You shouldn't rank for high competitive keywords that focus on low competitive keywords or long tail keywords to save your time and effort if you choose keywords with high competitive.

If the many topics in your site are related then it is quite easy to rank otherwise it is hard. Moreover it also depends on the competition of the keyword you choose.

Here are the ten steps to rank for a keyword in Google.

Step 1: Lay the Groundwork
Step 2: Do Your Initial Keyword Research
Step 3: Check Out the Competition
Step 4: Consider Intent
Step 5: Conceptualize the Content
Step 6: Execute
Step 7: Optimize for Your Keyword
Step 8: Publish
Step 9: Promote
Step 10: Analyze

I had similar issue, here is how i worked-around that.

i was doing it wrong, i was writing content on short keywords. so i rewrote all my content and submitted again to google. and wrote about unique long-tail keywords, keywords with less competition and less traffic. it my look like that for your website it would be better to write on high traffic keywords. but nah that's the same mistake we all do. as all other big players, with higher ranking, authority, quality and money already own that traffic, and it's brutal fight to rank on those short keywords. so instead i wrote only long tail keyword articles, once i my website had more authority and ranking, and became recognized...etc i started posting short tail keywords again, so that i can get a share of that big pie. it worked well for me so far.

Plus remember, with simple maths, if you get 1 View per day for an article (and that's so tiny - can do better easily). that means you will get 100 views per day for 100 articles (plus some other navigation views, and increase in authority...etc); so more quality content is better.

Last thing i did, was i got rid of all low quality content, and duplicate. it my look to u that a low quality, duplicate content that gets 10 views+ per day is better than nothing, but that's wrong. once i removed the duplicate content, my real quality content had the chance to shine, and pop to the top of google.

P.S. you should maintain activity in your site, post new content regularly, and keep your old content fresh as well (google loves that) the best way to do that is add some comments section to your articles, that will let other people maintain your old content for you for free, plus will allow you to build a community and loyal members base.
