Our team is using a VPS from AX (hosting around 15 sites on it) and going to update to a dedicated server in the near future
I want to know how to check a dedicated server is really good? speed, resource, RAM, CPUs...

Please share your experience?

A typical low-end Dedicated Server will be much more powerful than a VPS. How much RAM does your current VPS have? I recommend choosing a Dedicated Server that incorporates DDoS Protection into the bundle; just in case. What is your budget?

You can compare specs (CPU, RAM, Bandwidth, Drive Space, etc) by simply looking at the various offerings.

You also want to take into account what kind of hardware are they running. Contact their sales teams to find out which processor, what kind of drives, (SSD or HDD, Consumer or Enterprise grade), etc.

Also make sure to find out their network uptime, support availability, etc.

Following hardware specification could be turn into excellent dedicated server.

CPU ==> Xeon® Processor E3-1230 v2 or Xeon® Processor E5-2609
RAM ==> 8+ GB DDR3
Port connectivity ==> 1 Gbps
Drives ==> Enterprise class HDD SATA with RAID (SSD Drives provide excellent I/O performance but too costly)
Bandwidth ==> 10TB or more.

Sure, that would make a decent dedicated server, but pretty random recommendation since you have no idea what the OP needs....

Seem it is pretty good and I would have a link to check, please PM me.

Make sure to singup for a pretty newer brand with the latest processors. these days SSD hard drives are common and that will provide you amazing IO speeds.
Of course SSD is always my first choice when choosing a web host these days.

First of all, why do you need a dedicated server? switching to a dedi is actually more money. Also your VPS should be actually already have SSD(well, most offer SSD these days), but getting an SSD for your dedi will cost money again.

Did you upgrade your VPS?
Please provide us that info, so this topic can be closed.
If you didn't however could you provide your VPS specification.
You can maybe get better VPS or you just need to get additional resources.

@steitieh The first thing to to is to check the web host's network and Autonomous System. if one ahas an AS it means it is a member of ARIN, RIPE, APNIC or any other regional body. It is a very good idea to check if the network owner has a networking glass. You can also use any user tools such as speedtest.net, but make sure you own Internet connection is good, otherwise it does not make sense.

Once you choose a dedicated server provider, just speak to them and consult on the physical dedicated server specifications, based on your current and projected resources usage.

Hope that this helps :)

You should remember that VPS is still hosted on shared environment, so any dedicated server would deliver you resources like cpu and bandwidth dedicated only for your needs. And if you already have hosted your websites on VPS I believe that you should check how much RAM and CPU your websites are using and choose server with specs at least 50% higher than your usage.

Most of dedicated servers running on intel processors so you can check ther for full processor specification if provider / reseller didn't give details for processor.
For ram they are DDR3 , DDR3L or DDR4 depends on generation and tip (like E3 E5 E7 v2,v3,v4)
Max memory supported 32-64GB- 128GB, e7 up to 3TB speed up to 2133MHz DDR4
For disk they usually mention its a SDD
For example here is config with price
CPU: Xeon E3-1240L V5 (4cores/8threads) 2,1GHz - 8 MB SmartCache, Processor Frequency 2.1 GHz / 3.2 GHz turbo
RAM: 16GB DDR4 - can support max 64GB RAM DDR3L OR DDR4 speed 1333/1600 or 1866/2133 Max Memory Bandwidth 34.1 GB/s
DISK: 2x512 SDD you can choose Raid0/1 on non raid
Monthly Traffic: 10000 GB
Network: 10 Gbits Network Card

Its depends upon your websites and future needs. You can find the best performance dedicated servers by comparing the CPU, Memory, Disk, bandwidth and Port speed.

Compare the number of cores and frequencies of CPU
Compare the amount of RAM, RAM type(DDR4 << DDR4 ECC << DDR4 ECC Reg) and frequency of RAM
Compare the disk I/O speed and type of disk (SSD or HDD),
Many types of SSD are available in industry, so you should Compare the I/O speed of SSD they are providing.

But choosing a budget dedicated server seems good for your needs.

Intel Xeon E3 1240 V6
16 GB DDR4 Memory
64 GB SSD or 250GB HDD
Bandwidth 10TB@1Gbps
