Hey guys and girls.

I've been using shared hosting since forever and now, shared hosting just can't handle my traffic. My questions is:

Is it wise to switch to fully managed VPS without any cpanel, core and webhost ram knowledge?

I'm clueless when it comes to hosting stuff. How will I know the amount of ram or cpu I need?

If you have fully managed VPS packages posted in the webhost offers section in this forum then feel free to post it, I'll check it out. Also let me know about migration (whether it's free or paid). I have 3 domains running on my shared host, 2 are addons and I also have wordpress folders. I've used 23GB disk space.

Please ask me any questions since I feel like I didn't provide enough info.

I just moved to a VPS a week ago.

It also has cpanel which I only have really to generate backups and add a domain/database as needed. My host manages offers managed and non managed VPS, but it's worth the money to let them manage it until you've practiced/learned your way around WHM. Otherwise, you're going to have your host fix things after you break them.

My host migrates up to 10 cpanel to cpanel sites for free. The one thing that I noticed was that my site loaded a LOT faster, and that was enough to make me happy. There was a few hiccups during the move, which is normal when you're configuring servers, as they're obviously all set up differently.

How much daily traffic are your blogs getting? And is it media heavy, as in lots of pics/vids loading at the same time - that's probably what your host will ask. If your blogs are mostly text, you shouldn't need too much power.

Just don't let a host oversell you. Gotta remember its their job to sell you on everything possible. Years ago I had a 5 server setup; 3 web, 1 media, 1 SQL, cost me close to $1k a month. Those guys had me thinking I needed all that, but turns out that I didn't need any of it. Then I meet this independent host who moved my 20+ sites to one beast machine. Not only did the sites load faster, but he saved me $800 a month and the sites pushed 350-400k traffic daily, so I basically hit the lottery with that host. He was able to do that because he actually knew how to configure the machine to work for you, caching, all that stuff. Stayed with that host for 5-6 years and he recently moved onto another venture....but man, that guy saved me thousands!!! Wish he was still hosting!!

Right now I've moved on to another independent host. He's doing a great job so far and his company specializes in the software that we use. That's important for me because he knows the ins/outs of my scripts and how to configure the server to optimal settings.

Which is another point right there - make sure your host is knowledgeable with your scripts. If they don't know anything about it, then they may not be able to offer the best support.

Usually when you go with a fully managed VPS cPanel is included (easier to managed).

Are you able to get some stats on how much ram and cpu your current sites are using? If your current host is using cloudlinux take a look at the "resource usage" option under "logs" to get an idea how much you are currently using.

Not sure what your budget is but you might want to look at wiredtree. Highly recommended and they are fully managed.

If you don't have more experience on managing a VPS then you should go with a managed VPS

I have got the same problem as you when my sites have high traffic, got suspended more times on shared hosting thus I left shared and go with higher packages.

You can choose some VPS Hosting Offers here on our forum.

For me, I would recommend our forum Mods first, they are Hasan, Mightweb, RDO servers, ElixantTechnology, HostNurse... especially Hasan, he supported me solve web hosting problems fast.

I'd recommend WiredTree for managed services. If you're looking into managed, some type of control panel will almost always be included.

Like Drastic said, what you need depends on A) What your sites are running/serving and B) The amount of traffic you get.

Most hosts should handle the migration for you. They should also be able to pretty easily scale up the resources if needed (unless they put you on a server that is already almost maxed out).

Start with a smaller VPS, move a site or two and see how it handles your traffic. If all goes well, move the rest of your sites. If your not getting the performance you want, add more cores/ram to your plan.
