How does traffic measured in hosting platform? How does it work? The traffic can be measured using the size of the files that are transferred from one place to another or the file that is being requested by the client from the server or number of visitors arriving on the website? I can not know which answer is the most exactest.

Tools like Webalizer and AWStats scan various log files (web, networking, email) etc and generate reports from them.

If you are a CPanel reseller you can always look at the total bandwidth utilized in WHM. The provider of your services will surely have bandwidth tool that will show how much of your traffic has been utilized. For VPS I am using SolusVM which tells me the individual vps total traffic. What kind of hosting platform do you have?

Its usually in terms of data transfer per month. Although used interchangeably, bandwidth and data transfer are different things. Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transferred at one time. Data transfer is the actual amount of data transferred.

- the traffic can be measured using the size of the filz that are transferred from one place to another.

- it can be also be measured by the size of the file that is being requested by the client from the server.

- the number of visitors arriving on the website also involve in the measurement of the traffic using the web hosting platform.

- the advertisements of the sites take more bandwidth to allow more number of users to be on the website.

Scanning the answers above, including my own, there seems to be some confusion. Are you referring to "traffic" such as how much data is being transferred from your server (network traffic) or how many visitors, where they go, etc during the day (web analytics)

Hi,

You can measure bandwidth from cPanel >> Bandwidth and AWstats option. It will show all history of bandwidth.

Just ensure you don't delete bansdwidth and awstats folders from /home/user/ otherwise you will lost all stats.

Assuming that you are referring to web traffic coming on the website there are tools in the control panel, search engines and 3rd party tools that help one to track the no: of visitors, source of the traffic, demographics, etc. coming to their website.

Each time your server is pinged for a request to fetch an image or text, it is counted as a hit, hence the tools provided capture that and other data into an analytical display using awstats or webalizer, have the option to use google and bing analytics as well, actually more recommended to rather.
