Hello,
Can I use a server as a Home PC?
Pricing of a server is not cheap but if I want to use it as a normal PC, play games that requiring highest specs, working smoothly on graphic design software...etc
is that possible?

Why would you want to use a server for this purpose? Why not use a home PC?

Yes it's possible. I'd recommend Windows....but this can vary depending on your needs.
You can RDP into it and use it as a regular PC. You just need a pretty good internet connection. I mean, most providers give you at least 25Megs nowadays so you'll be fine. The faster your connection the smoother the RDP sessions. As far as gaming, well, I'm sure you know how that works already - general rule of thumb - low latency = key to no lag

Hope that helps.

I heard that a server is more powerful than a home PC. That is all.

Can you recommend me a PC with specs that can run big video games with at least 30 GB storage and running smoothly all graphic software. I am wanting to upgrade my PC to a new & power one.

Should I start with 8Gb or 16GB of RAm, intel core i5 or i3, which graphic card..etc?

Yes, servers are more powerful the PC's, but you do not want to use a server for your needs!

Servers are designed for a different purpose. They power is in the ability to process a lot of requests, constantly, for a long period of time. (Like serving websites to thousands of customers)

A PC is designed to process a smaller number of requests, very quickly. (Like gaming, etc)

This is why PC's have ~4.0Ghz+ processors and servers have ~2-3Ghz processors.

Servers are built to win the marathon, PC's are built to win a sprint.

Plus, you will not have the ability to (or at least more difficulty) run high level graphs cards in a server chassis.

If you want PC gaming, stick with a PC!

Oh alright then. The thing that you need to consider is what the response of the server is going to be going to be and since you were wanting it for games you will probably have issues with them not running smoothly.

Well since you are wanting a gaming PC first off, are you wanting a laptop or a desktop computer?

As for RAM, the more the better. Some systems will run good with just 8GB but it will depend on the other system components and things like the type and speed of the ram.

I don't understand what are you asking. First read some post about xenon VS I core.

First things first if you plan to play games and have some graphic design software or something like this you need standard PC not server.

Server comes with Xenon, if you read somewhere that someone sell Intel Pentium I3, I5 or I7 core as server that is not server it's PC.
here is you can find all Intel desktop processors link

So for best gaming experience you need:
Desktop PC with I7 core (more core /threads better) or extreme version for extreme performance.
CPU: I7 5th 6th or 7th generation
RAM: at least 16GB best 64GB some of I7 can handle 128GB
GPU: Graphic Card GeForce GTX 970, 970, 980ti, 1070, 1080. New generation is GTX 10xx and its better then GTX 9XX series. For extreme performance go with 2x or 4x GTX 9xx or 10XX SLI.
Disk: SDD for OS system (for some of software / games additional SDD) and HDD 1TB for storage

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Yes and no

A PC will out perform a server when it's doing many "PC Tasks". Yes a server is more poweful when doing "server" related tasks, gaming for example will perform better on an i7 with less cores than a Xeon CPU. If you have a powerful PC you can easily spin up some virtual servers on it, if your hosting requirements are not high load production systems this solution will work fine.

For example running a few sites and mailboxes.

Playing games and performing tasks smoothly on an RDP requires a very fast internet connection.
In addition for gaming no matter how fast your connection is, it would still not be perfect when the cost is compared. You are way better off purchasing a new computer.

I do use RDP for small tasks however never as a full time desktop use.

You, could... But if you want a PC that is good for games, then a server is not what you want. Servers are never spec'd for graphics intensive things. It is easy enough to buy a powerful personal PC and load it up with RAM and SSD drives and a super powerful graphics card. That is the way you want to go for a gaming/home PC.

For the question to open this thread I thought I need a comparison between a server and a desktop or can use a server as a desktop but after I got answers, I realize that a server can help me all things as watch videos, play big games...etc because it lacks of a graphic card.

When I asked a PC store online I was recommended to use Intel core i5 or 5 but AMD chip is cheaper, with Graphic card, they suggested me go with NVIDIA Geforce for better performance on games but AMD Radeon is better for graphics (watch videos, process images...etc)

You are quite right, I got this answer when asked this question.

I'm glad you find your answers.

Just I'm curious, where did you heard that AMD is better for graphics.
I know that AMD is cheaper then GeForce, so if you don't need for extreme games its best solution.
I had both graphics at same rank and there is no difference on (watch videos, process images...etc) but on games it has. Some one will tell you that AMD have better texture processing, but not me. For me games looks better on GeForce.

About PC store online recommendation, they suggest you Intel Core I5 because it is mid range processor and not that expansive as I7 processor.

Yes AMD CPU's are cheaper than Intels CPU's and you can usually get a faster AMD CPU for the same amount of money that you spend on an Intel CPU. It usually comes down to preference to decide which you want. I have owned many, many systems using both and the similar chips are all performing about the same.

I have used Radeon and Nvidia and the Nvidia performed better for me. I just got a new gaming laptop and it has an Nvidia in it and it performs perfectly. The Radeon's that I have used had some degree of clipping/stuttering when using HD games.

Interesting discussion. I know graphic, music, and video production teams that use servers for editing, and mostly because at the time they could get more RAM in those machines, which is very important for quick editing and rendering/exporting.

Yes it will access graphic software quickly on machines with more RAM but don'es help though. Because as everyone said in this thread, a server will not have a graphic card better than a PC.

Correct, but anyone doing work on a server or PC is not going to use the default card. For music production, one could never use the default sound card. Years ago a good quality sound card for production....one could start around $250...but a good card....at least $1000 after taxes.

Same with video. One has to buy video cards. Even before Win7 came out you would need a dual port card to setup multiple monitors. Doing music production on a single screen...you just can't. Too many windows are needed. Same for video. You need your preview screen and work screen. Even the video (and sound) cards on expensive PC's are worthless when one can buy one and disable the onboard video or audio chips, which can also be done on a server. That was one reason why I avoided laptops forever. You're limited to what can be done to it.

Yes you can use a server as a desktop or a desktop with server edition operating system installed. Alot of servers do not come with a great graphics card as servers are all about computing, not video.

Thank you.

Yaah its very easy to save without using your Harddisk space by Cloud hosting.
Cloud hosting Provided virtual resources of the computer such as Harddisk, RAM, processor, bandwidth etc and that virtual resources will be installed on your PCs and working as like Personal computer. When you are online and use that server via your PCs at the time your server gives the direct response on your computer and save every data onto server space.

You can with Windows 2012 VPS. You can access GUI of windows server using RDC and you will see the interface same as your local machine. But please be noted that you won't face performance same like your local machine. It will operate slower than your local machine.

Also if your VPS resources are less and if network is slow, you may facing lagging issue which may piss you off.

For this purpose , you need PC with High Spec processor, and Good Graphic card.

Server is design to be good working in 24x7, not for one person to use to play game. It design to be game server.

a server wont help much with playing games or graphics, i believe most servers cant support EASILY a dedicated graphics card, while a desktop cant support other features such as ECC RAM, dual cpu's, raid controller which most server motherboards support !...
