I came this question because I realized that on my PC more RAM really helped the speed of my PC. What about the VPS? Does the size of RAM also affect speed of a VPS? if yes, why?

Yes, more RAM is always a good thing. It will allow the server to have greater performance and stability.
Faster cores/more cores will have the biggest impact on VPS performance but a decent amount of RAM is needed so the VPS is not "bottle necked".

Processing power is useless is process are fighting for RAM.

Hope this helps.

More RAM is always good to speed up the things , but its depend again on many things. What are you actually going to host on the VPS that is the first question and then the discussion starts from there if you should have more RAM or not or go with the VPS plans itself.

You are right and not. Its really depend what is purpose of VPS for web hosting its not that important to have large amount of RAM.
But if you have many processing thing that are loaded and needed to be on RAM or to use it, then you need more RAM.

You can find on forum what can speed VPS.

The short answer is: Size of RAM can affect speed of VPS in some cases in other its just waste or resources and money.

Higher the RAM, the more capacity will be there for data-in-process to be available.

Generally, the processing power is what speeds up your server. For example, a Xeon E3-1220 v3 with 16GB RAM will perform less than the new Xeon E3-1280 v6 with 8GB RAM.

More ram = More server capability of storing application variables, however it doesn't really speed up the server that much but a little over-speed would be noticed

More RAM on a VPS just means more it can use for caching. Caching speeds things up considerably as cache is much faster than disk read/writes. However, you never want to run out of memory (excluding what is taken for cache) as your VPS services like httpd, mysqld, systemd, etc will start to fail as they wont have enough memory to operate.

Yes, it will affect only if your Application/Software is RAM hungry. Sometimes, the apps who utilizes ram most/caches most have great impact on ram as well speed of VPS.

Performance of the vps depends on the amount of ram. Some other factors like how many cores, what type of drives, Network speed are the major factors affecting VPS performance.

It all depends on your RAM usage, if your RAM usage exceeds the allocated RAM of your VPS package, you will experience slowdowns in processing processes. Thus, it's best to monitor your RAM usage to get an optimal package that fits your application/website

Hello there,
as all of the above said, ram does matter but in some cases. altough the more ram the more better because it will handle more process and etc. furthermore cores, disk drive and other things are also needed for a better performance.

What makes yours server really work FAST
1. Ram - Not only the "SIZE" also the TYPE. the popular ram type is: DDR3, and its work perfect.
About the usage: lets say: Linux systems dont "eat" alot of ram but if your have a big application so you need to preper yours.

2. Disk types and Raid - Ok disk type and Raid have own world ;)
To understand it i learning classes for 1-2 lessons only about Raid and Disk types and usage.
So in 2 words: Or use good Disks ( SSD is perfect ) Or find a company with Raid-5\6 or Raid-10.

3. Network speed - Yea its the most important thing when you running a Server in the network.
Its contains the word in the: "SERVER IN THE NETWORK "
"IN THE NETWORK" - "NETWORK"

So you need to have a good Network connection speed on yours SERVER to make it run good and fast :)

To test all that 1st check yours disk speed and errors on it, also check that yours RAm is enaught for your needs,
And also test the server network speed.

Have a good day :)

RAM Actually does help your vps run faster. But as stated above you will need to compliment it with high quality CPU. If not all you will be doing is hold more process for your cpu to handle or store more temporary data.
