What is better for caching between Varnish and Squid? I have read posts on this forum and more people are using Varnish for their hosting services. what about Squid? Is a good caching solution? If having a comparison, Varnish or Squid? which one will you choose? why?

Good morning,

Squid is using less CPU than Varnish but handles less requests per second (Varnish handles ~1,6% more than Squid) and have a bit more latency.

On an average Varnish is better matched than Squid when is come to do reverse proxy HTTP. Nevertheless, Squid is a very established product and has had the phase to amass a lot of features that is still not available or up to the mark in Varnish. The chief advantages of Squid over Varnish, Built-in SSL support. Varnish needs stud, stunnel or Nginx to do SSL. Better support for Assortment and streaming delivery of objects. Support available for antivirus-plugins etc.
