This question is always in my mind when I suppose that a dedicated is better and faster than a VPS. I'm on an Linux VPS. Could be my imagination, of course. What about you?

It's all a question of resources, if the VPS has more cores, RAM etc then of course it will out perform a dedicated server. Same goes for a dedicated server out performing a VPS.

For web hosting, a dedicated server is not better and faster than a VPS. Even for my personal usage, I always create some VPS on a dedicated server. Because if you are the only user of a dedicated server, it will not make any differences to run your web server or your control panel. And with VPS you can limits the resources usage when it's harder with a dedicated server.
VPS also provide some features like backup, migrations, ability to be resized quickly.

It all depends on what resources your website needs.

If you have maxed out on ram, AND your site performance is being inhibited by the low amount of available RAM, then yes, upgrading to a dedicated server with more ram. The same goes for cores, space, uplink speed, etc.

The biggest inhibiting factors on a VPS are:
Some hosts overselff resources and/or only give "shared" resources.
Disk IO can be a problem. If the host does not have adequate disk arrays in place, IO can really slow you down.
Uplink speed. The physical node will have a set uplink speed (determind by how it physically connects to the switch). All VPS's on the node have to share this uplink.

Can a dedicated server be faster then a VPS? Yes!
Can a VPS be faster then a dedicated server? Yes!

It all depends on what you have, compared to what your site needs.

Dedicated servers are always having better resources than any VPS servers hence i think a VPS can be compared to a dedicated server.

Generally looking dedicated should be better, but in real life it isn't.
Its all depends on servers hardware and network connection, you can find servers with very low spec.

Simply not true. I have seen pleanty of really mediocre dedicated servers with processors that are 10 years old, 4 gb ram, etc. Meanwhile you could get a VPS with a modern processor and scale resources as you need.

With a VPS there is the added overhead on the server(dedicated) for the virtualization software. But that really doesn't seem to matter anymore. Virtualization software is so well written now that you really can't tell a difference if you are on the actual dedicated server hardware or a vps.

As everyone has mentioned, it can go either way depending on what resources there are.

You usually get better value for money when choosing a VPS over Dedicated Server specs and features wise.

When this happens?

When it runs on a faster dedicated server if compared with other VPS?

For web hosting, a dedicated server is not better and faster than a VPS. Even for my personal usage, I always create some VPS on a dedicated server.
I want to ask if a VPS is always created by a dedicated server or what?

VPS accounts can be faster than Dedicated Servers depending on how they are configured and the resources available to them.

Yes, VPS accounts can only be created on Dedicated Servers.

Agree with the previous replies. If the dedicated server configured with the more resources and configuration then it will be faster, RAM, CPU allocated will decide whether dedicated server is fast or VPS.

If you have configured your dedicated server with the adequate resources then definitely you can configure your VPS on the dedicated server.

I think dedicated server is better and faster than VPS because it always has more resources in comparison to VP server.

Dedicated servers provide fast load times even when facing heavy traffic. As their resources are not shared, your website gets 100% of the processing power. Shared servers, on the other hand, restrict the number of resources you can use, which results in slowing down the overall speed of your website.

Its not completely true because there are some other factors that can impact your VPS and Baremetal server's performance. I have seen VPS better than a Dedicated server but again its depends on how optimised Virtualization is...

Well there is no such things in the question made here, you can have a dedicated server with old hardwares like DDR2 HDD etc, and on another side a VPS created in a dedicated server with latest hardware like DDR4, NVMe disks etc, and of course the VPS will be faster then.
But there is no doubt that the dedicated server are better/faster than a VPS if it has good new/latest hardware etc, since in dedicated server you don't share the server's resource with others, while on VPS you do.

VPS accounts may be faster than Dedicated Servers depending on how they are configured and the resources available to them.

Yes, VPS accounts can only be created on Dedicated Servers.

Whether you have successively a big business or small size firm, a website is more than required equipment to register the presence of your business across the world these days. Much of its performance is determined by on the selected hosting services. So, a hosting solution should be chosen wisely with much inspection. Preferably, you should select the one that suits your business rather than which costs smaller.

With a VPS there is the additional above on the server (dedicated) for the virtualization software. But that actually doesn't seem to matter to any further extent. Virtualization software is so well written now that you certainly can't tell dissimilarity if you are on the definite dedicated server hardware or a vps.

When comparing the performance and speed of a VPS to that of a dedicated server, it is evident that dedicated servers will be quicker than VPS servers. Because, although a VPS is practically devoted to you, it still shares network resources with other websites, a dedicated server is completely dedicated to you. As a result, a VPS is a fast server, but not as fast as a dedicated server.

The loading speeds offered by VPS hosting are excellent; nevertheless, if numerous websites hosted on the same server have surges in traffic, your site may become less responsive.

Yes, Dedicated hosting is faster and better than VPS hosting. It's not only about faster and better; Dedicated hosting provides more security. It scales your website and makes it more flexible. It is costly but also has more features than another web hosting. The user has complete control over the choice of OS, storage, and other components. The user experiences excellent web performance and can focus on his core business, accelerating the enterprise's growth.

VPS hosting scale your server and is suitable for medium traffic website. However, in VPS hosting, users do not have complete control over the choice of OS, storage, and other components.

VPS suffers from slow storage speeds. Usually with Linux KVM they are all using slow 10gbs NFS or iSCSI storage. Even 40Gb/s can barely handle 1500Mb/s R/w.. The bonus of dedicated is that the storage is local and nothing stops the Kernal from accessing it. Ram and CPU are easy to share on a VPS, but storage slows it all down.
IE a NFS based VPS windows install can take several minutes. An infiniband or Fibre channel will build in less than a minute. !
Ive build storage servers using the SCST + DRDB over Fibre Channel. for Vmware Very fast @32Gb/s
Infiniband is even better in Vmware VPS hosting, becuase its 56Gb/s to 100Gb/s and offloads all SCSI commands to the PCI adapter, not via CPU. so it frees up more (about 10%) compute and I/O for the VPS resources. Very fast, almost as good as a dedicated server. Ive achieved transfers exceeding 20GB/s in windows VPS and benchmarks @256kb block Random and sequential get 2000-4500MB/s!!! BOOM better than local NVMe!!! Seriously GO FABRIC RDMA!

When it comes with the resources than Dedicated Servers is much better than VPS and also they can handle high traffic.

It depends on which VPS and which Dedicated server you use.
You can find very "power" VPS and very weak Dedicated servers.
As for me, VPS or a Dedicated server depends on the traffic on your website. For small and middle websites - enough VPS (site will work with good speed), for large better use Dedicated server

In general, you need to look at the characteristics of VPS and Dedicated servers.
This is because a VPS provides your website with shared server space and a dedicated set of resources. This setup can avoid performance and security issues with shared hosting. A Virtual Private Server can provide faster page loading and less downtime because it doesn't rely on shared resources.
But, as an example, a good VPS in terms of power will be faster than a weak dedicated server, but if we take the average case, then VPS in terms of speed can be better.
