I am planning to upgrade to a dedicated server. I browse the offer forum and found out 2 small packages.

Server A:
Intel Xeon Opteron 1385
8 GB RAM
2x2 TB Storage
10 TB Bandwidth
4 IPv4 Addresses

Server B:
8 GB RAM
AMD Athlon II Quad-Core 4x 2.3 GHz
2x 1 TB SATA II
Software-RAID 1
100 Mbit/s port
Unlimited Bandwidth

Which Server specs is good for me and which one is better? why?

Your advice would be appreciated.

I would stay away from any provider that has a sale listing an Intel Xeon Opteron.

Yes, me too, and a dedicated server with an AMD Athlon II is also a good reason to stay away from this provider.

Before thinking to purchase a dedicated server, look for a good VPS because the slowest VPS with SSD will be faster than a dedicated server with classic hard drives.

It would be better if you let us know your budget so we can recommend the best spec for your budget. What are the minimum specs you need?

I assume both servers are on 'cheap' bargain deals as both AMD Opteron and Athlon II are really old hardware.

Most VPS would outperform them, so do not pay more than 50$ for these machine.

While Opteron is a better CPU, advertising them as "Intel" product is misleading and I would not go with a company that have no idea what servers they are "reselling" at this point.

Do not pay more than $10.. AMD CPU are always slower than Intel one, and an Opteron 1385 is less powerfull than a Pentium G3460 -> CPU-Benchmark
For me this provider use some laptop as servers ...

Edit : it was not really hard to find the provider with the keywords Intel Opteron 1385 and the forum search :rolleyes2:.
But I also find the same package available from a global reseller for half-price...
Anyway, you should look for a VPS offer with SSD. Cheap dedicated servers are not a good solution for web hosting.

I wouldn't use that provider id say the same thing everyone else is saying, if the provider cant even get the name correct then what makes anyone think the service would be good....... just something to think about before purchasing from them.

I think your usage purpose is really important. If it is for backups, you would want the server with RAID and unlimited bandwidth so you can transfer plenty of data. If you are planning to use either server for production use... I'm sorry :rolleyes2:

It's mostly AMD Opteron. Check http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Quad-Core+AMD+Opteron+1385

I wouldn't go for any of them. what budget are we talking about?
