I would pick .hosting, but neither have a "official purpose" so you can choose either.

Considering this forum is mostly about hosting, and that it seems to be growing in popularity in the SERPS, why not go .hosting? .host can possibly mean something else, for instance a host of restaurants, or a hotel host, or a guest host. Hosting services are more synonymous with the industry. I know that was already suggested by RDO and others, but there's why in a nutshell.

I think ".hosting" is a better choice in this case. People tend to search terms about "web hosting", so your domain will have more opportunity to appear higher in SERP, example this forum "forum web hosting" is an exact match domain. I think so.

Yes you are right on this, mostly when I search on Google or other search engines I used to use "web hosting" and it's reason why I also select .hosting for this forum, on an aspect of a normal user, I rarely search term "web host"

for examples
How to find a right web hosting
How to choose a good VPS hosting package
Who is the best hosting company

Hosting, hosting and hosting again :(

I don't know everyone out there use term "host" or "hosting" when they searched for somethings related to web hosting but I would pick .hosting if I have a chance to select it for a new domain.

Exactly, and you really do understand about SEO and which people are thinking and searching.

When I chose this domain, I was pretty supprsing why a good domain like this but web hosting providers ignored it while it will give you so much benefit if owning this domain.

ForumWeb - can build a community discussing about website solutions while .hosting (domain extension) is a great word to make it related to web hosting field. I can use both. Website owners need web hosting and vice versa, web hosting providers need to connect to webmasters, websites owners as their potential customers.

Hope I am not wrong in this case :D

With new .tlds coming every now and then, I am happy with a .com or .net. Although .hosting sounds lucrative... :D

Personally I like.hosting better but go ahead and register the .host version of your domain and forward it to the .hosting.

Basically just for brand protection, just in case. ;)

I think that choosing between the domain extension .host and .hosting is going to depend a lot of what website will be on the domain as well as what exactly the domain name itself is.

If you get a domain like "web" then either one would be good to use although I personally like the .hosting with this domain.

If your domain was something like "findyournext" then although you could use either, the .host just seems to be more appropriate and sounds better.

Overall, I like the .hosting domain extension better. If your doing a blog on hosting, then I would go with .hosting as it seems to fit better.

I would pick .hosting - it goes well with everything. .host not so much.

As ulterios said, pick both, it's safer :)

In some cases I try to buy the other extensions that are similar to the one I will be using for a website just so someone doesn't try to pull some kind of scheme to try to sell it to you later at a premium or get traffic that should go to my site. There are even a lot of copycat people out there that look for things to profit off of from other peoples sites.

You can use any from them, but let me give you a suggestion, sometimes a longer extension can be little problem, having a smaller one is always better, but it is not always the case.

I think they both mean exactly the same. Note, even if you speak of restaurants, then hosting is just as valid as host. I suppose it's just your personal preference, the only advantage being that the word hosting is a highly searched keyword in regards to finding a place to put a website. Anyhow, does anyone remember the fact that .net was originally supposed to be about computer stuff?

I remember when it was used by many of the top computer and tech companies and many later made sure to get the .com also. It was originally meaning network but these days I have seen many people that think it meant/means internet.

Smart guy with smart choice/advice, I have same though with you and you are very clevery in this case.

Definitely I chose hosting because it covered both .hosts and .hosting and this factor was not included in articles on "how to choose a good domain" but I see it's an important factor when choosing a domain name and it used to come from experienced people. :D

Can you tell me more why need to register the .host version for brand protection? I would hear the details :D

I too vote for .hosting most people are not going to search for anything like web host, I think the majority will search for web hosting.
Agreed with you, as a normal user, I often use "web hosing" + something when searching for web hosting services.

It helps to serve to protect what you have built with your time, money and dedication.

What if you had a website that was using the domain "BestFree.Hosting" and it started to become one of the top websites in the world and you had spent your time and money building it and then someone comes along and creates a website that looks real similar and is using the domain "BestFree.Host"?

They could be getting some benefits of your work. What if their site was basically a copy of yours and it started to rank higher than yours? You wouldn't want someone to benefit form your hard work and investment by just creating a copied site.

Don't get me wrong, it's not always needed but the bigger, more popular, higher ranking and more successful your site becomes then the bigger the target your domain becomes to people who want to basically steal your efforts and success for their own benefit.

Personally I always prefer to have similar domains to any I care about registered as well, just in case.

Too many people these days want to gain from other people's time, investment and efforts rather than create something themselves.

Not everyone can create good, high ranking and successful websites for themselves like you have. Some people want the easy way and benefit from the work of others instead of working for their own success. ;)

will vote for .hosting extension.
Why do you pick the .hosting extension? What is your reasoning behind your choice?

My first and major reason for .hosting extension is for SEO and google ranking, because a keyword rich domain ranks much better in google. Hosting is a much search term for web hosting industry than host. So if I am looking for good traffic from google and easy website SEO .hosting is the best suited TLD I would personally choice ahead of .host.
