I've just bought a new domain for starting a new niche site. I would like to know what factors calculate or determine value of a domain name?

The domain registar ^^ There are many domain which are said as premium because they have a potential value for a niche.

The first factor is the number of letters. Most of domain with 2 or 3 letters are already sold or are premium, because there are easy to remember.

And the second factor is the mean of the domain. example : vps.hosting -> premium, hotel.com -> premium, forumtralala.com -> not premium ...

But a domain can also get value if it was already used before (or getting blacklist by some online communities like WOT, and yes I had to ask them to review my website which was untrusted and dangerous for us ...)

There is some tips in SEO to buy a domain with seo value and to link it to your new website.

I have one domain that I have had since the 1999 and it showed a valued of over 6 Grand / then others I have from 15 bucks to 50 bucks

Cheers,

@Mihai B.
the tools mentioned above are handy for a little estimation however never sell on the bases the tools give you.
as mentioned in the first reply to the thread, see if it has 2/3 letters even 4 in some cases (2/3 are worth a lot).
next use your best friend google to see if there are any companies or websites with those names if there is a big website again it is worth a lot depending on the size of the website/company.
on other thing if it is very niche friendly. e.g. for a health website sixpack.com or even howtogetsixpack.com is worth a lot even though they are long domain names.

First off automated domain appraisals are usually wrong and by a lot. People who have been in the domain business and are experienced domain investors (domainers) will not use these and look at their valuations as a joke. I have been a domain investor since the mid 90's and have seen many people buy or try to sell domains based on the automated appraisal sites like estibot, only to find out that the estimate was WAY off.

Automated appraisals are not accurate. There is no rhyme nor reason for their appraisalsand if you don't believe me that they are way off go to estibot and check nfl.com $0, mlb.com 1.8 million dollars, there's a good laugh. Godaddy.com, $0. ;)

Second, there is no accurate way to calculate a domains value exactly. There are so many factors that contribute to the value of the domain. There is the extension of the domain (usually most important), how many characters the domain has, does it have numbers in the domain, does it have hyphens, is it easily pronounceable, does it mean something, does it have a popular word in the domain and many other factors.

The best way to find out the value of a domain is to get it appraised by people who have experience in this field, a lot of experience. Many of the domain selling platforms offer domain appraisals but they usually give an appraisal much higher than the actual value in hopes that you will list it in their marketplace for sale.

Best way to find out what a domain is worth is to check with experienced domainers! ;)

I dont think that tools are giving the correct price and also i dont think you can sell the domain for that price.
Maybe if your domain is popular and tools give some low price, you dont need to bealive in them.
Give a try sell it for your custom price dont look from sites.

A domain is worth what someone will pay for it like coke.com or facebook.com if it is short you will get more money for it, if it has ranking on google then your going to get paid....

I think there's no magic formula on pricing your website. The real worth is based on many factors such as your domain's traffic, revenue, competitors, niches,...and the market you're joining. However the most factor I see that is depend on your customer need. If you find a right customer then you can flip it with very high price, or you need to wait and in some cases it's not worth at all.

Good luck to you,

There are domain productivity tools available online that should help you give the domain estimation value. The other way I see this working is by asking domain experts or you could create a thread on forums asking the same.
