.com is the first Generic top-level domain to buy for any business. And it's also the first you have to check before choosing a name.

But I don't understand what you mean by "I can sell it for more" ?

I much prefer .com whenever available. It's what nearly everybody thinks of first. When developing a new product, I sometimes change the product name if the .com is not available, to a name that has the .com available.

Of course .com is standard for domain extension, it represents the word "commercial" and is the most widely used extension in the world.

But for me, I don't mind to choose other extensions if it is fit my requirements to develop and easy to grow a website.

I like .hosting, because it is unique. I feel it is different then .com .net and .org

For forumweb.hosting most of visitors are at least interested in IT. But running a website on a .pw will provide less trust from visitors. Because they don't know it's means professional web.

It's the same for .site .space or .tech. For a personal or non-profit why not. But not to run a business. And the domains like .hosting or .host are really more expensive than a .com ($26 .hosting, $78 .host) and I haven't seen yet any hosting provider using them here ^^

Yes only the commercial websites should avoid new extensions. It can be a problem of "trust" as most of people only know .com, .net or .org
Just curious why .com is more trustworthy than new extensions? could you please show any reasons?

:DD: I like reading comments like this, a bit more funny in it but really is true and I agree with you. it doesn't decrease any trust or any thing.

Some afraid that it is hard to get good rankings on search engines but according to me, it's wrong.

Forumweb.hosting still can get in top 10 Google after over 1 month with keyword "web hosting forum" and I am going to have it in top 3 or top 5 of this keyword soon.

Here a screenshot

I am considering to get one .Rich extension too :D

I am too, to be honest, I could choose a better domain than forumweb.hosting but some beautiful domains was not available. So I chose forumweb.hosting and it is still a good choice to build a popular web hosting forum.

You are right on this...almost people are familiar to .com .net .org domain names without care/know about other extensions...thats' reason why I failed to register with some web hosting providers out there with the email @forumweb.hosting ..they even consider this email was invalid :D

I dont think the domain extention matters so much, its mostly about the website it self, content of the website and back links when it comes to SEO.
And if you are just talking about user preference. Most users are familiar with .com domains as they are simple to remember and used everywhere.
However this is not the case so much any more as you can see more and more websites using domain extensions which is best for them. this year .io and .pw was quite popular.

In most cases I usually prefer the .com domains when I am building a website or if I plan on selling the domain. It does get hard at times to find a good available .com domain so you have to be creative or be willing to pay a premium price if you want a .com only.

There are times where other domain extensions look good and are appropriate for certain websites. Like this forum for example, it looks better to as ForumWeb.Hosting than it would look with a .com being ForumWeb.com. The .com doesn't help you understand what the site is about and the .hosting domain does. It will depend on the domain and the website that will be used on it.

You are quite right in this analytics about .com and .hosting (about our hosting forum) in this case. If using forumweb. com then we can only develop a forum that related to web topics, it is hard to build a hosting forum like this. When we have forumweb.hosting, i think it is explaining full information about our forum, it's a forum web that discussing about website and web hosting field, even this domain is better than forumweb .com so I think using .com or other extension is depend on using purposes, it needs to be flexible when choosing a domain to start a website, consider what we will do then should select a domain that involves to it.

Yes, sometimes I don't think that people give enough thought to the extension that they will be using and for what purpose the website built on it will be for. Sometimes the new extensions work real well for certain purposes like here on ForumWeb.Hosting as it explains what the site is about.

For almost gTLD domains, they're all good choices. However, it depends on what purpose you should buy your domain, building your own business or investment? And depend on who are your target audiences, if someone build a website for his local customers then ccTLD domains the best choice. However .COM is the best and then .NET, .ORG, .INFO,...IMO.

Theoretically, the domain extension doesn't matter too much but I always try to get a .com domain. As another member said previously, I prefer changing the product's name for a good .com instead of picking a weird/new extension.

.com is the most used domain, and also can be called as a trusted domain, most of the big companies are using this extension.

For business , yes .com is definitely my no.1 priority TLD to get. If not , .net would be fine too.

Unless you're running a site which requires a specific tld , .com's are mostly what you would need.

.com and other top level domains extensions like .net, .org and Geo TLDs like .co.in .com.au are most preferred. As they are easy to remember and use. Most people, still think that a website means its just .com and www are must.

For example, still people write like this

www. mydomain .com its like a standard that deep rooted in people minds.. another benefit is some extensions like .com have browser shortcuts.

For example, Type Google now press Ctrl + Enter key in your keyboard. It will load Googles webiste.. Cool right?

Now coming from SEO experience, no matter what extension you prefer to use, if your niche and business gets authority. It will get Googles favor. For example take this forum, it is ranking on Google for some keywords related to hosting.

Because it have some enagement, it has a domain name that is relavant to niche and its using other SEO factors, that are important from Googles stand point.

If you get or able to register a .com try to get it at first place. Or else find other domains.

I always make it a point to go with .com as it looks more authoritative, more frequently used, and popular amongst other TLD's. But one should not carried away as there are many factors that Google takes into consideration while judging your website.
