Hey Guys,

I am seeing two VPS packages like these on a hosting site

Package 1 (VPS CLOUD)
Code:
OpenStack KVM
99.99% SLA
4 vCores
3.1 GHz
8 GB RAM
100 GB
High Availability (Ceph)
$$ /month
Package 2 (VPS SSD)
Code:
OpenStack KVM
2 vCores
2.4 GHz
8 GB RAM
40 GB SSD
Local RAID 10
$$/month
I'd like to know what is the difference between VPS CLOUD and VPS SSD?

Could you tell me which package above should I choose and why? any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the company.
Some companies advertise cloud (but in fact, it's just a VPS with hourly billing). Chances are, the first package uses mechanical (spinning) discs, though.
As for SSD - that's pretty simple, it's a VPS having SSD storage. Assuming it's pure-SSD, and not SSD cached, anyway.

No too hard to find where you have seen this package #ovh
The big difference between cloud and ssd packages is the cloud is more production ready and get better performance. You can also run windows on it.

Hi VirtuBox, if I don't use Nginx and OpenSSL then it doesn't have more differences between VPS SSD and Cloud VPS as you pointed out on the image above.

The core difference between the 2 package you have mentioned is ...

1) Cloud VPS - The storage base of the Cloud VPS plan is CEPH / SATA HDD hence you are getting 100 GB Space and its Openstack based cloud VPS

2) VPS SSD - its a traditional VPS which has SSD disks as storage. SSD disks are faster than SATA HDDs.

So evaluate your space requirements as well as speed requirements and then accordingly choose the package.

If speed matters for you then go with VPS SSD.

You will not see a lot of difference between the two packages, VPS SSD have better disk latency because they use a local storage, and the CPU performance doesn't impact for web hosting purpose. VPS Cloud use Ceph storage, so that mean you will never have downtime due to the disks or loose your data.

VPS Cloud are using Ceph storage but that's not based on SATA HDD, they use SAS 15K Disks with NVMe caching system. Only the latency is higher than SSD.

yes, in other words for performance ssd are a little faster in IO read write, but cloud have a little more vps allocated resources on ram and cpu and you simply can't lose data with ceph
