I have some digital products in the $10 - $50 price range. I would like to offer my clients the choice of paying it all up front, my current shopping cart is allow Paypal only

If you're offering these products online, can you please share me what payment methods should you use? and why?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I think it always a good thing to give more choice to customers. I think customers are more confident because they think you are in partnership with many payment processors.
I recommend you to have at least Paypal and another Credit Card processor, for example your bank.

I only use Pay Pal. Why? It's widely accepted (many people have PP accounts), it's easy to use and hook up to just about any site or system, piece of mind because all the financial details are on PP's site, not mine, and last but not least, I can get my money at any ATM any time. I can also call them any time if I have a issue or question. They've always had great support.

Do I lose sales because I only use Pay Pal? Sure I do, but it's not great amounts. I feel it's a good trade off for the above. And honestly, for some (maybe most) who can not pay through pay pal, they probably can't pay though other options anyways.

And Pay pal does have the option to pay with most any credit card or debt card without needing a PP account.

You DON'T want to take credit cards or use your bank as mentioned above. That is a BAD idea. Taking credit cards means your site stores credit card details, which means if your site is hacked, you could be held responsible for other peoples personal financial details. If Target and Home Depot can get hacked, do you think you stand a chance of not getting hacked? The bad guys are looking to get into to any site, big or small.

Plus, if go with your bank, that means a merchant account which means a credit check, higher fee's, and again, your probably storing credit card details.

Also, when you spread out the payment options, it could take longer to get your money. Some places take a week or two to give you your money.

Years back I tried Google Wallet, or what every it is being called today, and got stiffed on two out of three orders. Maybe they've changed, but I have not had a good experience. Last I heard they don't even have phone support.

For th average person looking to sell some things online, Pay Pal is a great option. If your talking about big business, then yes, other options should be explored. But for most who work from home, it's not worth adding to many different options.

Of course I am not a payment expert, just my opinions. If I am wrong or some one want's to add an intelligent reply, please do :)

For the sake of clarification, most if not all major modern shopping carts do not store any credit card details. It is true that the credit card details are submitted on your site and then instantly transmitted to the CC processor and so it's possible to hack into your code and intercept those details, but this type of attack is more complicated and far less common.

Plus, if go with your bank, that means a merchant account which means a credit check, higher fee's, and again, your probably storing credit card details.
Here you're misinformed, I'm afraid. The reseller I use (and recommend) for authorize.net accounts sets up the merchant account for you and it does not involve a credit check and the fees I pay there are actually a lot less than PayPal's.

Well, if you are the guy from US/Canada or if your country at the Stripe list. Then you can use STRIPE. It's the best solution so far! Or you can you FirstData if you are an Asian. But all over all Paypal shouldn't be the solution for a Digital Product selling. Yaaa..

if you selling object / any tangible item which has shipping details and all. Then yes! Paypal.

Other than move from Paypal immediately if you can.

Thanks

It's always a good idea to give customers as bigger choice as possible. Even when we're talking about payment methods. And I personally prefer the following: PayPal, MasterCard, Visa and American Express.

I think it all depends on which forums, you advertise your service for and from WHAT countries the clients are coming from, I dont know for sure but i think most US clients prefer PayPal or maybe local bank transfer, so if ur business is within the US paypal would do for that business, if ur targeting clients from europe, well u need to offer different options as some dont like paypal not sure why, and from the middleeast, that's a whole different story as most clients from this region dont like paypal !!.. it all depends on ur clients preference and maybe u can enforce single payment option if the majority of them use that method and the rest maybe they can arrange it too, its never a good idea for the provider to offer like 99+ payment methods, just think of the headache you will get when u try to withdraw your funds from all those different payment gateways !!...

I guess this really depends on your target audience. I don't have any issues using just Paypal on most of my sites as you can use a credit card through them plus it is more secure this way too.

If your target customers are from outside USA, then depending on the currency and country you want to offer to your buyers, you need to select backup or alternate payment method. You can accept other payment methods like

https://transferwise.com/
https://www.xoom.com/request/
2checkout, stripe etc..

most shopping carts support multiple payment gateways, you just need to add appropriate plugin and configure the API keys and test out things. You should probabily contact your developer (if you are not a developer). And get these done.

Transferwise and Xoom does not require you to pay any upfront fees. It is like internation wire transfer made easy. Exchange rate is pretty good too. We used it in past and it works decently.

Hope this helps you, Thank you.

Many of the companies allow multiple payment methods for their customers for online transactions to ease out the transaction process. Some of the best and highly secured payment modes are, Paypal, Payza, skrill, perfect money, visa, bitcoin, mastercard and more.

For my personal choice I just stick to PayPal. Why? Because there are many advantages. The major advantage is that it's compatible with my bank within my country/region. (Please note* in some African countries and others, PayPal cannot be used to accept or send payments.)

I can accept payments anytime and I have automatic withdrawal system with which my money is automatically deposited to my bank account after 4-5 days. I haven't faced any difficulties yet while receiving or sending payments. Even the conversion of dollars to the local currency is automatically done by PayPal. There's no depositing fees. And the currency conversion is satisfactory. There's a low fee which is levied for sales.

The interface is good. You could avail good shopping options. And there's a lot to explore on PayPal. Also the customer support is very good. I once faced a problem with my payment and it was resolved very quickly when I lodged a complaint.

So overall I prefer PayPal over other options.

We've checked out other options than PayPal and wasn't convinced to add them in. We feel that PayPal works fine for us and don't see a need to add another until an alternative is competitive enough.
