Well, the first question is, what OS will your VPS have?

Assuming it is a Linux VPS, cPanel is by far the "golden standard" control panel. Easy to use, and widely used so getting help if you need it is easy. A good free option would be CentOS Web Panel.

If your using a Windows VPS, use Plesk.

PHP sites then should go with Linux OS?
Yes. Although you can host php site in Windows/Plesk, a Windows VPS will be more expensive due to the Windows licence costs.

What requirements if use cPanel, Directadmin on unmanaged VPS?
Dispite which control panel you choose, you should go with at least 2GB RAM and at least 1 CPU core. Be sure to ask which virtualization platform your host uses. OpenVZ is cheaper, but it relies on shared resources and can easly be oversold, which can drastically decrease your server performance. With Xen and KVM, you typically get fully dedicated resources.

Info about CentOS Web Panel?

KVM is actually just as easy to overcommit CPU/RAM as OpenVZ is, the only difference is disk which is handled with volume groups. Xen used to the be the standard for top performance, however KVM has since far surpassed it. OpenVZ, depending on the provider (be careful) can offer the best performance due to the least overhead.

Hello,

You should defiantly go for cPanel as all the other posters mentioned, not only is it a nicer user interface than DirectAdmin its much more powerful in managing your websites aswell as the server. Although dont get me wrong DirectAdmin is decent, they just have a outdated theme :(.

Stick with cPanel on KVM or XEN for sure.
I used cPanel but if install cPanel or KVM, I should install KVM before installing cPanel?

Sorry I have not used KVM before.

Thanks for your info, how about price on each one, cPanel and DirectAdmin? As I know if go for unmanaged and going to install cPanel then I have to pay more for cPanel license, right?

If you have limited technical knowledge I would recommend you to choose cPanel, with it, you can manage everything easily, also get support or server management for servers with cPanel installed on it.

I recommend to use Plesk especially for Linux since it is the only Control Panel that supports 14 Linux distributions (Plesk supports CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, RedHat, CLoudLinux, Windows, ... vs cPanel only supports CentOS, RedHat and CloudLinux).

In terms of ease-of-use and user experience, I tested several solutions and I can say that Plesk was by far the most intuitive solution. The cPanel UI is from my point of view not really good, endless scrolling and searching for features. In Plesk things are more structured and you can select the UI (not even choose a theme, but also change the whole UX e.g. depending if you are a service provider or a web developer)

Besides that Plesk is more focussed on developers with natively integrated features like Docker and git AutoDeploy (in Plesk Onyx) - that's what I really like! And the are more up-to-date with HTTP/2 as 1-lick configuration, etc.

For all who would like to just test it, run their Docker container directly from your laptop:
Code:
docker run --privileged -d —it -p 8880:8880 -p 8443:8443 -p 8447:8447 plesk/plesk:preview

Hi,

I recommend to use Plesk. I have tried different control panel and Plesk is the best one. I really like it and recommend everybody to use it. Plesk was really improved during last 3 years. The interface is really user friendly and has a logical structure. There are all needed tools for domain management and for creation website. You can create domain, mailboxes, databases etc. and easy manage and maintain them. If you like WordPress, Plesk has WordPress toolkit for the WP one-click installation and for management of many WP instances on your server (WP update, security check, Plugins/Skins installation/activation/update). If you are going to use the VPS only for yourself, you can activate power user view in Plesk in order to disable all unneeded staff usually used for classic shared webhosting management.
The Plesk installation in VPS is really easy and stable. You can just use this CLI command to install in the VPS:

Default one-click installation:
Code:
# sh <(curl http://autoinstall.plesk.com/one-click-installer || wget -O - http://autoinstall.plesk.com/one-click-installer)
Custom installation:
Code:
# sh <(curl http://autoinstall.plesk.com/plesk-installer || wget -O - http://autoinstall.plesk.com/plesk-installer)
Cheers!

OS is an interesting question, for sure. But the assumption (as stated below) that cPanel is by far the 'golden standard' for Linux and Plesk the one for Windows is not correct. Plesk supports 14 Linux distributions (including Ubuntu) and 4 Windows servers. From a regional perspective I do agree that cPanel has a strong footprint in the Americas but if you were to ask the same question to a European.... Plesk would definitely be the top choice. If you're moving from managed to unmanaged my suggestion is to focus on flexibility and ease of use. Plesk is also providing a steadily growing extensions catalogue which allows you to address multiple business needs in a very easy and straight forward manner. Download a free trial and check it out ;-)

If you want a free panel, Webmin is a decent choice.

Plesk and cPanel are the market leaders and are both very good panels.

Plesk should definitely be your default choice. Reasons: much more focused on developers. Lots of new dev oriented features like Git or Docker as part of the upcoming Onyx.. www.plesk.com/onyx/ .

Onyx looks quite interesting. Lots of nice features and a nice setup.

Onyx might just take a bite out of cPanel's profits in the future! ;)

cPanel is always better It will cost you $15.00 per cPanel license. But if you dont want to go for paid license then you can give a try vestacp which is good open source tool.
